Collaborating with other community stakeholders that help the families of Marlboro County in the areas of parenting, early childhood and well being by maximizing resources to expand services to our parents and children.

More Children Arrive at Kindergarten Ready for Success By 2025, the percentage of children who score at the highest level of the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment will increase by 3% each year to 40%

Ensure the overall Well Being of the children in Marlboro County by engaging their families in learning experience as it relates to the early development.

Ensure the overall well being of children in Marlboro County by increasing the number of eligible children who are assessed for early intervention.

Ensure that the Marlboro County community understands the importance of Early Childhood.

By FY 23, the percentage of children in need who are directly served by MCFS will increase from 15% to 18%

Marlboro County First Steps will continue to thrive to be a driving force in the advocacy and difference in the lives of the early learners in Marlboro County. We hope this comprehensive plan becomes a tool that allows us to continue to focus on the importance of early childhood education in our community. We look forward to celebrating 20 years of Marlboro County First Steps.

This is my last year as Board Chair of the Marlboro County board and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I will continue to serve as a member of the board. We look forward to continuing our efforts for another 20 years.

PAT GOES VIRTUAL Due to COVID-19, Parents as Teachers (PAT) National provided guidance for affiliates to deliver virtual services via interactive video conferencing and phone calls. South Carolina PAT affiliates rose to the occasion by engaging families in creative and meaningful ways while continuing to

Marlboro County First Steps/Marlboro County School District PAT program has been recognized for achieving model fidelity.

For many families in Marlb or o County, the cost of quality childcare is out of reach. Our scholarship p rog ram makes p ayments to childcare p roviders to care for children from low-income families so their p arents can return to school or work as well as incomeelig ib le children whose p arent attends school or works at least 2 0 hours p er week. I n addition to reg ular monitoring of childcare p roviders that receive First Step s scholarship s , First Step s conducts at least one develop mental screening each year with scholarship children and connects families to needed services within the community.

FIRST STEPS 4K IN MARLBORO COUNTY 2020-2021

PREPARING FOR STATEWIDE EXPANSION With First Steps 4K, families are in the driver’s seat. They choose the program that best meets their needs. Families can enroll their child in any of the 244 private, nonprofit, or faith-based child care centers or schools participating in the program. The majority of First Steps 4K providers offer 8-hour day and year-round instruction, including summers, which is at no cost to parents.

PUBLIC AWARENESS Marlboro County First Steps public awareness consist of a lot of collaboration. Being in a community this small, agencies who work with families must collaborate with each other because we service the same clients in different capacities
