SAMANTHA SCHELLER
hi there! Thanks for taking interest in my portfolio, here’s a little information about me.
1 |
SAMANTHA SCHELLER
My name is Samantha Scheller and I am a recent graduate of the Interior Design program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Ever since I was a child, designing my doll houses, I knew interior design was the career for me. I have always been interested in residential design, but after expanding my knowledge of the various design fields through different projects within my classes, I gained more interest in both retail and commercial design, most specifically, restaurant and fitness center design. I am from a town called Sussex, nearby Milwaukee. Living in a city one day or moving out of the midwest interests me, and even traveling for a hopeful future job. In my freetime, I enjoy adventuring to new places, working out, thrifting, and active outdoor activities. When working on projects, my favorite step of design is space planning. I find joy in figuring out the puzzle that each space leaves me. I also take a great interest in graphic design, with creating process and presentation books/boards.

Palm Springs Renovation Inspiration for this project includes traditional mid-century modern aesthetic, as well as a clean, slick take on palms springs essense of fun patterns, shapes, and colors
PROJECT OVERVIEW Requirements for this project include things like an open concept floor plan that embraces the home’s original features, the use of sustainable materials, and design features that reflect the modern period of the home’s original construction. The client requested for her collection of mid-century artwork and furniture to be included within the design as well as the use of clean lines and polished surfaces.
CONCEPT STATEMENT The concept behind this space is an upbeat, energetic feel through the use of patterns and bright primary colors. Elements such as the vintage furniture from Eames and Miller bring a truley traditional feel of classic mid century modern style. A greenery wall and energy star rated appliances allow for a sustainable renovation.
The design process changed quite a bit, essentially flipping the kitchen/living area and bedroom/office area, allowing for enough space within the bedroom and office and an open concept kitchen and living area.

LOFT APARTMENT PROJECT OVERVIEW Through exploring both residential and commercial design concepts and the research of code constraints, this project challenges a solution for either a livework environment for a graphic designer or a private studio for an artist. I went about designing the private art studio for an abstract artist. My client wanted both a space to escape and indulge into her artwork and a space to unwind and entertain with guests. My design also includes a leisure space influenced by my clients interest in entertainment, technology, and media.
CONCEPT STATEMENT The concept behind this design seeks the balance and connection between a relaxing home and stimulating work life by allowing the clients desings to energize all spaces. Inspiration stems from Cherokee Studios’ industrial exterior, not only an architectural, but a sustainable element. Aspects like an open concept, to utilize natural light, energy star-rated appliances, and materials/ finishes to mimic the industrial style of most studio lofts make up the design intent for this project.

PROJECT OVERVIEW The purpose of this project was to design a space within an existing library where teens can socialize, get homework help, play video games, and explore digital media. Design efforts were to be inspired and based off “YouMedia,” a program created within Chicago libraries that helps lessfourtunate teens build digital media skills through creative learning spaces, alowing them to socialize, discover media, and cultivate hobbies into careers. A close eye was kept on expenses as the funding for this projects came from taxpayers, grants, and private donations. Thus, it was a goal to explore a design solution that balances the need to be cost-effective while still meeting the needs of the end user.
CONCEPT STATEMENT The concept behind this design is the fostering and enabling of learning and creativity. Spaces with bright colors and patterns include a variety of unique and comfortable seating options, providing a stimulating and energetic learning environment for teens. The layout serves a balance between open and defined. It offers several options for learning that are open and visible throughout, along with defined spaces for focusing. Multi-use spaces and interchangeable seating & tables allow for a variety of interaction.
RESEARCH & INSPIRATION
YOU MEDIA
My research included looking into various YouMedia projects as well as overall colaborative spaces and seating. I found that students’ ability to choose where they study enhances their experience and focus while boosting creativity. I took a lot of inspiration from this and wanted to include a variety of work spaces for the teens, ranging from comfortable seating for a social environment, to quiet, secluded areas with stimulating seating for more of a focused environment.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Between a few different restaurant types, one was selected and was to create a dining experence based directly off a strong concept. It was a goal to not only maximize seating opportunities, but to adhear to the occupant load that was calculated.
My inspiration comes from the Milwaukee Public Market and general downtown MKE culture. I wanted an open concept layout with various types of seating options, even casual lounge seating. Several custom ceiling elements were included, inspired by nautical sea life and fishing. An industrial aesthetic takes over the space with some fun boat focal pieces.
