A dream of a knight’s castle

ns te

in C astle

The most beautiful knight’s castle truly deserves its title! Take some time for a little rest when you approach the castle: beholding it from the opposite bank of the Zschopau River valley, Kriebstein Castle greets you from across – a dream-like view! The entire estate is almost 600 years old, it lies exactly at the heart of the triangle between the cities of Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz and is one of the most popular destinations for outings in Saxony. Explore the monumental residential tower, the castle chapel with its precious murals dating from the 15th century and the “Kriebstein Room”, or rummage through the exciting history of the erstwhile castle lords, the Arnim family. The cozy castle inn »Zum Hungerturm« (The Hunger Tower) invites you for lunch, afternoon tea or a small snack. A visit to Kriebstein Castle is ideally suited for school trips, group or family tours. If you just cannot get enough of Saxony’s most enchanting knight’s castle, attend one of the events, such as the Medieval Castle Festival or the »Castle of Fairy Tales« and experience how knights used to dwell at the castle. Take a look at our online event calendar at www.schloesserland-sachsen.de in good time before your visit.

Mildenstein Castle in Leisnig

astle on the oth

Standing high up on the walls of Mildenstein Castle, gazing into the valley of the Freiberger Mulde River will make you dream. This is what the castle lords felt already 500 years ago – this castle is a dream of power and rulership turned to stone. It stands imposing, high up on a steep rock above the green river bank, seemingly inconquerable. In the bailey there is a high, windowless tower, the keep. It counts among Saxony’s oldest brick structures. Its history dates back to the 12th century and is full of adventurous events. Just opposite, you will find the entrance to the Romanesque chapel. At Mildenstein Castle, you will experience the Middle Ages first hand: the exhibition tells of its almost 1,000 years of history in an up-to-date way and interactively – especially thrilling for children and families. A true insider tip is the newly reconstructed medieval black kitchen – it is fully operable. You must also discover the small tranquil town. Strolling through its charmingly winding lanes, one can walk right up to the castle. And allow yourself a delicious meal at the rustic restaurant right before the gates to the castle.
