Thermal bridges in the building foundation. High risk of structural damage.
Thermal bridges are local areas inherent in the structural envelope where a significantly greater outward flow of heat occurs than in adjacent areas. This increased outward flow of heat leads to a sharp drop in the interior surface temperature.
Bricks with high bulk density λ = 1.0 W/(Km)
Temperature significantly below condensation temperature
How mould is formed Damp is almost always present on building sites, mainly caused by rain. If the heat insulating blocks become damp and absorb the water, this greatly reduces or even completely removes the insulation effect. The thermal imaging clearly shows the appearance of the thermal losses in damp masonry. The surface temperature is significantly reduced (blue area) making the structural damage visible.

Heat flow in foundation without thermal insulation
An uninsulated wall base in the foundation presents a serious thermal bridge. Often this thermal bridge is not recognised during planning or only inadequate "insulation measures" are taken.
Thermal imaging of uninsulated foundation
Typical consequences • High risk of structural damage. (Mould and condensation formation) • High loss of heating energy. • Statutory and standard regulations are not complied with.

Thermal insulation from the ground upwards. Schöck Novomur®.
Using Schöck Novomur® and Schöck Novomur® light achieves a highly effective insulation of the thermal bridge in the foundation right from the start. Mould is prevented by the water-repellent thermal insulation element allowing you to build using the current state-of-the art. The requirements of the Energy Saving Regulations are more than met.
Schöck Novomur® light λ = 0.193 W/(Km) Schöck Novomur® λ = 0.266 W/(Km)
Areas of application Schöck Novomur® or Schöck Novomur® light are used depending on how high a load-bearing capacity is required. Schöck Novomur® The high load-bearing first layer in foundations for apartment houses.

Reasons for high-quality construction • Design safety for architects and consulting engineers. • Additional protection of structure against water. • Dry wall footing: important for tradesmen such as plasterers and painters. • High surface temperature ensures walls free of mould. • Security for landlord and building contractor. • Building material certified by German Institute for Construction Technology (DIBt). Brick strength class: 6 N/mm2

The advantages at a glance. Schöck Novomur®.
Design safety Simple calculation, comprehensive design documentation and competent advice from our design department. The static design loads for Novomur® and Novomur® light can be obtained from us direct.
Fast and safe installation Thanks to the plane-parallel surfaces, subsequent processing with concrete precision bricks and thin-bed mortar is easy and accurate.
Simply complete Available in wall thicknesses 10 cm, 11.5 cm, 15 cm, 17.5 cm, 20 cm, 21.4 cm and 24 cm. Exact brick widths. Outer and inner sides cannot be mixed up. Standard height 11.3 cm, some sizes available in 9.0 cm height.
Very easy to handle Element length 0.75 m for easy handling. Conforms to the standard masonry grid.
Powerful insulation High insulation characteristics λ = 0.266 W/(m·K) for Schöck Novomur® and λ = 0.193 W/(m·K) for Schöck Novomur® light, with high load-bearing capacity.
High protection Element has almost no capillary attraction. Prevents moisture entering the wall during construction. Also suitable for installation in facing sheets. The Novomur Element is water-repellent.
