The hubs would have technology to support a variety of teaching methods and delivery of presentations. where? Centrally located within the core school buildings allowing easy access. why? Active learning hubs are intended to support a variety of learning activities including thematic study, cross disciplinary or support a single discipline across a year group.

The hubs would have technology and fixed support facilities to suit the core subject discipline while also supporting a variety of teaching methods and delivery of presentations. where? Centrally located within the core discipline area. Location should provide fixed serviced support facilities and ease of access to alternate learning areas – taking best advantage of ‘in between spaces’ and providing access to outdoor space where appropriate. why? Subject learning hubs are intended to support a variety of learning activities - while being discipline specific, providing high quality support facilities.

what? High quality dedicated environments and equipment to suit individual or group specialism. where? A series of learning bases in mainly urban settings. A mix of new and refurbishment and development of existing facilities.

what? Fully flexible event space: performance, assembly dining, social. High degree of flexibility – readily adaptable to suit a variety of requirements.

where? Generally required in all learning environments, its size being dependant on the capacity of learning environment. why? These spaces will always be required - they provide spaces to come together both formally and informally, socially and academically, in large or small groups. Could provide specific knowledge focus (arts, multi-media, science etc) or ‘showcase’ inspiring new ideas, linking research and industry. where? Distributed around urban centre, using existing facilities where appropriate. why? To encourage engagement between students, the wider community, further education and industry, and local commerce.
