25th September 2013 Dear Parents / Carers, As we approach the end of the first month of our new school year I am writing to you to share some key pieces of information with you. We have had an excellent start to this year and I would particularly like to thank you for how smart our students look in terms of their uniform and presentation. This sets a tone of high expectations and creates an excellent impression of our school in the community. I know that you will want to support us throughout the year in upholding these high standards. On Friday afternoon of this week our whole school will come together to celebrate Mass, with the theme of celebrating our school community in its diversity and many strengths and talents. St. Peter’s has much to celebrate in our 2013 GCSE results. We are extremely proud of our Year 11 leavers: 97% achieved 5 GCSE’s at grade C or better, with 83% including English and Maths at grade C or better. A staggering 57% achieved at least three A*/A grades. These are the best GCSE results in Wigan and also across the whole of the Liverpool Archdiocese. We would like to congratulate all our students and their families and to thank staff for all their hard work. I am pleased to announce that from Monday 30th September our online payments system will allow you to top up your child’s dinner money. You can add a minimum of £10 to your child’s account in the same way that you pay for trips. Dinner money will appear as ‘Metro Fresh’. If you create an online account you will be able to monitor your child’s account and purchases whether you credit the account at home or they put the money on in school. To set up an account go to the parents’ section of our website and then ‘Online Payments’. As part of our fundraising for CAFOD we are having a non-uniform day on Friday 4th October which is Harvest Fast Day. Students are asked to bring £1 for CAFOD in return for wearing non uniform. They are expected to meet the standards of dress that we ask for on school trips or visits. Also on Harvest Fast Day students and staff are encouraged to have soup and a roll for lunch and to make an additional donation to CAFOD. We have improved our website, school calendar and are making greater use of ‘Twitter’ to keep you informed throughout the year. I look forward to meeting you at school events and to working with you and your children to make this another very successful year at St. Peter’s Yours sincerely,

A. McGlown Headteacher
