PART TWO:
Introduction to the Level Two Qualification The UKDBA Level 2 Coaching Course is for candidates with good experience in the UK sport of Dodgeball, it is open to any candidate over the age of 16 who wants to improve their knowledge of the sport and their coaching skills. The course has been designed by the NGB for Dodgeball, the UKDBA and its development team, the team has a wealth of experience in all age groups, and with input from the top international coaches their expertise has helped to form a high quality qualification for you to experience. The certificate upon successful completion of the qualification, will enable you to plan and deliver Dodgeball to any age group. The certificate will also open up opportunity to progress your coaching development further through the UKDBA. Qualification Prerequisites You are required to: • • •
Be at least 16 years of age Filled out the relevant details on the pre-course booking form Attended a current safeguarding & child protection course
Recommended: • Attended a basic first aid course • Equity in your coaching And at minimum one of the following: • • • •
Hold a UKDBA Level 1 certificate Have experience at a UKDBA event Hold a UKDBA refereeing qualification Have experience of UK rules coupled with a level 2 certificate in another sport
Note: Registration Your certificate does not expire, however your insurance through the UKDBA will need to be renewed 12 months after receiving your qualification.

PART TWO:
Qualification Aims and Objectives Aim To build on your previous coaching experience, developing the skills to prepare, deliver and review coaching sessions for Dodgeball. Expanding on your knowledge of the sport, and creating innovative ways to deliver Dodgeball to players of all ages on your own. This course offers deeper understanding of Dodgeball for aspiring coaches in the sport, developing their knowledge and understanding of how to coach Dodgeball to a variety of ages, whether it is a local community group, or to a school team. Qualification Format The UKDBA Level 2 consists of 5 parts, 4 modules and an assessment. The 4 modules are assessed throughout the modules and within the final assessment, all areas must be passed in order to successfully complete the qualification.

Kings & Queens
Objective: To protect the King from being called ‘out’ Skill: develops the skill of blocking and the tactic of Guarding Organisation: Give one player on each team a bib to wear Rules: If the King is hit or called out in any way, their whole team is out and the game is over Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Change number of kings/queens on a team Vary number of balls used Limit the playing space of the king/queen Give the king/queen some lives Change from outs to points Add conditions: if king/queen makes a catch whole team back in king/queen can protect themselves with a ball Vary format of game: play to elimination, time limit to hit king/queen.

Golden Balls
Objective: To protect yourself and others from being called ‘out’ Skill: develops the skill of blocking and the tactic of Guarding Organisation: Give one player on each team a ball wrapped in a bib Rules: One person is in possession of the golden ball, if they are hit or the ball knocked out of their hands they pass the ball onto another player and continue playing, players without the golden ball play normal rules and are out in normal ways. The player holding the blocking ball must guard only. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Change number of golden balls on a team Vary number of playing balls used Give the golden ball guard some lives Change from outs to points Add conditions: each time you block with the golden ball a player may return to the court Vary format of game: play to elimination, play points for each time the golden ball is used well.

Regeneration
Objective: To hit the opposing target with accuracy Skill: develops the skill of throwing accuracy and power. Organisation: Mark a target on the opposing teams side of the court or a person wearing a bib. Rules: Each time the oppositions target is hit, one player may return to the game. Normal rules apply elsewhere. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary the number of targets Vary number of playing balls used Vary position, size and weight of the target Change from outs to points Change from static to moving target Add conditions: each time target is hit more players can come back on or even whole team. You cannot protect the target, you must hit a certain part of the target only.

Bombardment
Objective: To hit the opposing target with accuracy Skill: develops the skill of throwing accuracy and power. Organisation: Mark 3 targets on the opposing teams side of the court. Rules: Hit all 3 targets and the game is won. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary the number of targets Vary number of playing balls used Vary position, size and weight of the target Change from outs to points Change from static to moving target Add conditions: only counts if it is a live ball, you can add one guard to protect all the targets so they are harder to hit.

Army Dodgeball
Objective: To hit the opposing targets body parts with accuracy Skill: develops the skill of throwing accuracy and power. Organisation: Normal game. Play to time limit or elimination. Rules: each player has 4 limbs; two arms, two legs, if a limb is hit they can no longer use that limb in the game, if they lose all 4 limbs or are hit in chest or head they are out. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary number of playing balls used Add conditions: for simplicity do first hit=lose any leg, 2nd hit= lose any arm. If they make a catch they can get back a limb or all their limbs, if they get a chest shot in exchange a team mate can return to the game

Pin Dodge
Objective: To throw with accuracy to knock over the pins Skill: Will work on throwing accuracy from different angles and keeping the ball low Organisation: Normal Dodgeball rules apply, with 4 pins situated at back of court as displayed in diagram Rules: For each pin which is knocked over by the opposing team, a team mate can return to the court, once the pin is knocked over it stays down Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary number of playing balls used Vary the size and weight of the targets Vary the position of the pins on the court Group the pins together to increase target area size Add conditions: if you hit a pin whole team is back in

Drop Catch
Objective: To catch the ball so to remain in the game Skill: develops catching Organisation: Normal game. Play to elimination or time limit. Rules: Normal game of Dodgeball however if you are out you drop to play on your knees, if out again play sitting down, 3rd out leave the court, if you make a catch at any stage you stand back up. Only those standing who make a catch can get a team-mate back in onto the court Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary number of playing balls used Change from outs to points Add conditions: if you make a catch you can only move up a stage e.g. from sitting to kneeling

Objective: To be the last person left in Skill: develops all skills and ability to identify key players and how to get them out Organisation: Normal game. Play to elimination or time limit. Rules: Normal game of Dodgeball, when you are out make note of who got you out, because if they are called out, you and all the other players they got out return to the game. Invinciball
Objective: To catch balls at speed Skill: Develops skill of catching Organisation: One person on each team wears a bib, play to time limit or elimination Rules: The player wearing a bib is invincible, they cannot be out until they are the last person left in on their team, if they make a catch whole team comes back on. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary number of playing balls used Add conditions: the invincible player has a number of lives and when they lose them they pass the role onto someone else, if the invincible player makes a catch only one person comes back in, the invincible player must stand closer to deadzone so catching is harder.

Catch Me If You Can
Objective: To make a series of successful catches Skill: Catching high balls or middle balls Organisation: Normal Dodgeball rules, play to elimination or time limit Rules: A player is only out if it hits them above the waist. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary number of playing balls used Vary the target area: progressing to below waist will mean only punished with a catch for a high throw Add conditions: increase the reward for when a catch is made, if they make two or more catches in a row whole team can come back in.

Prisonball
Objective: To catch the ball to get out of prison and back into the game when called out Skill: Develops basic catching Organisation: Mark a prison line, have players stand in front of line closer to the deadzone, when they are out they go around the outside of the court to prison. Rules: When out you must go into prison behind the other team, to get out of prison you must catch a live ball from a team mate, once the catch is made leave the ball in prison and return to the game. Game is over when one team is all in prison. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary the size of the prison Vary number of playing balls used Add conditions: you can can’t throw above head height, you can’t throw under arm or loop the ball to team mate, if a catch is made on court you can nominate a team mate to return to the game from prison.

Double Trouble Objective: To catch the ball to get an opposition player out from behind Skill: Develops basic catching Organisation: Mark a prison line, have players stand in front of line closer to the deadzone, when they are out they go around the outside of the court to prison. Rules: When out you must go into prison behind the other team, to get out of prison you must catch a live ball from a team mate, once the catch is made you have one attempt to hit an opponent from behind before leaving the prison. Game is over when one team is all in prison. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary the size of the prison Vary number of playing balls used Add conditions: you can can’t throw above head height, you can’t throw under arm or loop the ball to team mate, if a catch is made you can either hit opponents from behind or return to the game only.

Bullet Dodger Objective: To evade being hit by a ball during gameplay and out of game play. Skill: Develops the skill of Dodging Organisation: Normal Dodgeball rules apply, play to time limit of elimination Rules: When a catch is made, the thrower is out but no one returns to the game. To return to the game the first person out for each team must run through the deadzone and back without being hit by a ball from either team, successful run means they return to game, if hit they re-join line of players out and wait for their next go. They can only be hit below the waist with an under arm throw when running through the middle. Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary number of playing balls used Vary the size of middle zone Vary the type of throw active players can use when aiming for runners. Vary the target area throwers aim for on players running. Vary the way they move through the middle e.g.. Add in dynamic movements Add conditions: they must run through more than once, they cannot wait the other side, limit throwing distance of active players.

Dynasty
Objective: To be the last person standing on their side of the court Skill: develops all skills and most importantly decision making in reducing chance of being out Organisation: Normal game. Play to elimination. Have players go around court to join other side. Rules: Normal game of Dodgeball however if you are out you join the other team Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary number of playing balls used Add conditions: only join other team if caught or hit

Dr Dodgeball
Objective: To identify the doctor, get them out so you can go on to win the game Skill: Develops all skills but mostly team work using communication to work together to find and get doctor out. Organisation: Normal game. Play to elimination. Let the teams secretly decide who the doctor will be. Rules: Normal game of Dodgeball however if you are out you sit down, the doctor must come and tap you on both shoulders to revive you, then you can continue playing Progressions: Vary the size of playing area Vary number of playing balls used Tell them they can have a decoy doctor Make the doctor visible to everyone from the start Have the doctor wait off the court and they can only be out once they enter it.
