Welcome to Kincraig Primary School where the children are at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on our warm, friendly and family orientated atmosphere. At Kincraig we recognise that every child is unique and all our staff work extremely hard to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to achieve to their full potential. Children learn what they live…So it is vital we give them a wide range of experiences and create stimulating learning environments to ensure every child can develop a love for learning and enjoy being in school. We have the highest possible standards for behaviour at Kincraig and we value the partnerships we have developed with parents, carers and the local community. Ultimately we endeavour to develop the whole child and prepare each one academically, emotionally and socially to live and succeed in an ever changing world. I am proud to be the Headteacher of Kincraig and to know I am leading an exceptional team of staff to provide the very best possible education for all the children in our care. It is important to us all at Kincraig that parents feel part of our school too and always feel welcome. If you have not visited the school and would like to, do not hesitate to contact us and we will arrange an appointment.

‘Growing and Learning Together’
introduction
Introduction to our School Kincraig is a small Primary School located in the Bispham area of Blackpool. The school opened its doors for the first time in 1997, since then the school has been extended and modernised significantly.
The school is currently one form entry and is built on one level and although appearing small from Kincraig Road, the premises opens up to reveal a modern and stimulating environment where the pupils enjoy learning. We have 7 classes Reception through to Year 6 with up to 30 children per class. The school boasts a colourful library in the atrium, an intervention room and a large hall used for a variety of different activities throughout the day. We are very lucky to have a large surrounding field for outside activities and a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). We have a purpose built kitchen which enables us to prepare and cook the children’s lunches fresh each day. There is an excellent Nursery attached to school which provides childcare for children from 2 years old to school age. There is a Children’s Centre on site which has significant standing in the local community and provides a range of activities that take place here, like a Paediatric doctor’s clinic, Midwife checks, Baby Massage, toddler groups, family learning sessions and much, much more. Within this facility there is a café which is open to all children accompanied by parents from 8.00am.
The teaching staff are talented, experienced and passionate about providing the best possible learning experiences. They always put the needs of the children, whether they be educational, personal or social, as their first and most important priority. They employ a range of teaching styles and techniques to enable the children to achieve the highest possible standards. We believe that education extends beyond the academic to the development of the whole child into a capable and confident individual, ready and able to take a place in society. Our core aim is to provide children with the skills, knowledge, attitudes and confidence which are necessary to enable them to make informed choices for themselves. The children experience a wide range of learning opportunities that are intended to develop them academically and personally. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in the school. They are invited to support teachers through such activities as hearing children read or assisting them on the computers. They are also invited to discuss their child’s progress with the class teacher on a regular basis.

behaviour
‘Growing and Learning Together’
Behaviour We expect all children to present high standards of behaviour. All children are encouraged to have positive attitudes towards their work, respect for their own and others property and consider the needs and wishes of all other adults and children within school. We constantly reinforce our school rules with the children and have incentive schemes and rewards for good behaviour. An adult will always discuss any incident with the child and find a way to resolve it. At our school we also believe parents should receive positive and constructive comments on their child’s behaviour as a matter of course. It is vitally important that parents are involved in a positive way in all aspects of school life. If there is a problem with your child’s behaviour we will contact you to see how we can best solve it together. It is important for the child to see us as a united front. With this is mind we have developed our Home School Agreement.

Home-School Agreement Our Vision statement is ‘Growing
and Learning Together’
This home-school agreement is based on principles and values on which this school is based and to which the governors, the head teacher and all the staff subscribe. It is hoped that parents and pupils are equally committed to the same ideals and central to this is the partnership developed between the parents, pupils and staff of the school.
Parents’ Responsibilities
The School’s Responsibilities
Pupil’s Responsibilities
We acknowledge that we, as parents, are the primary educators of our children and have an irreplaceable role to play in supporting our children’s learning at school.
We acknowledge our responsibility to support parents in developing each child to their full potential.

Because I am special, I will try to: • play well with my friends and be kind, • come to school every day and in my uniform, • be well behaved on the way to and from school, • try and enjoy being at school, • keep my classroom and the school clean and tidy.
Therefore I/we will: • work with the school in supporting the education of my child, • see that my child attends school regularly, on time, suitably equipped and dressed in full school uniform, • support the aims and values of the school community, • work in co-operation with staff to resolve issues and problems that may arise and let the school know of any issues that might affect my child’s work, behaviour or attendance, • encourage my child to be enthusiastic about learning, provide opportunities for home learning and support homework from school, • support the school’s policies and guidelines for behaviour and dress code, which are intended to promote the highest standards of behaviour and discipline, • encourage my child to show kindness and consideration to others and to always behave appropriately, when in school uniform, on their way to, and from, school, • participate in whatever way possible in school events, • treat staff and pupils with courtesy and respect.

I also understand that there is only one of me and I have special talents that I must try and use wisely. Therefore I will try to: • attend school regularly and on time, bringing with me all the things I need, • wear school uniform and take a pride in my appearance, • take care of all school equipment and help keep our school free from litter and graffiti, • try my best in all my work and be polite, at all times to all pupils, all adults and all visitors to the school, • be well behaved on the way to and from school, • behave sensibly so we can be happy and safe as we learn, • observe all school rules and treat everyone with the respect they deserve, • try to think for myself and take responsibility for my actions, • take part in all aspects of school life and be proud of my school.
The School Curriculum We provide an exciting, creative curriculum focused on developing children’s creativity, skills and raising achievement. We enhance classroom learning experiences through inspiring educational visits and encouraging visitors to come into school to share their experiences. We strive to bring the curriculum alive for the children. We are very lucky to have our own mini bus to be able to transport our children on trips. We promote cooperation and collaboration through a variety of teaching strategies and differentiated activities. This is important in order to encourage children to become independent learners who are engaged and enthused to learn at school and at home. The Curriculums we follow: Nursery and Reception children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Year 1 – Year 6 children follow the programme of study set out in the National Curriculum guidelines.

Exciting opportunities for every child beyond the classroom
beyond the
At Kincraig we strongly believe that children learn best when they are having fun. As well as developing this through our curriculum we promote this through our wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities. Here is a selection of our clubs: Performance Dance, Football, Chess, Choir, Creative, Netball, Board Games, Drama, Hockey, Rugby, Science, Rounders, Indian Dancing, Athletics, Team building and Gardening. All children in Year 4 have the opportunity to play a musical instrument through the Wider Opportunity scheme with the Local Authority. We also have peripatetic teachers who provide woodwind and guitar lessons. Commando Joe comes into school and works with all the children on a Wednesday. He is a positive role model for the children, not only does he enhance the great work we already do but he acts as an extra tool to help develop learning and inspire our children to achieve. His main objective is to work with children to develop the following skills: Leadership, communication skills, self-respect, respect for others, discipline and team work, collaborative working, self-confidence and motivation, independence, curiosity and creativity, problem solving, decision making and enterprise. The motto for Commando Joe is ‘No child left behind’.
