This week has been another busy one at Churchtown Primary School, filled with lots of learning, laughter and play. This morning, during our praise assemblies, we were able to reflect on & celebrate the hard work and dedication shown by pupils. There were lots of amazing examples of pupils who continually demonstrate our value of ‘love of learning’, both in school and in their efforts outside of school through extracurricular activities – well done all!

This Sunday, November 24th, sees the start of the festive season with the Churchtown Christmas Fayre. Children from our school choir will be singing at the event during the light switch on, this is due to take place at approximately 3.45pm. We would love to see as many families there as possible. As we all know, the run-up to Christmas is a busy time and in the calendar section at the end of the newsletter, you will find all of the activities, parties and performances leading up to the day we break up for the Christmas holiday.

Have a lovely weekend, Mr Miller.

LOVE OF LEARNING

This half term, the Value that Churchtown is developing is Love of Learning. At the end of the half term, Value Champions will be nominated for each class.

SERGEANT SNUGGLES IS BACK!

At Churchtown Primary School, we encourage and celebrate excellent attendance. ‘Sergeant Snuggles’ (named by the children!) has become a much-loved member of our school community and visits one class each week who are titled the ‘Attendance Champions’. This can be for reasons such as 100% attendance, exceptional punctuality or most improved attendance. The winners also have the ‘attendance star’ on their classroom door as an acknowledgement of their achievement. ‘Sergeant Snuggles’ will be visiting his first classroom during the week commencing the 25th November 2024. Which class will he be visiting first?!

In addition to the weekly ‘Attendance Champions’, we have an additional termly attendance award which will be taking place after the Christmas holidays. Each week, the year groups with the highest attendance receives 2 points and the second highest year group receives 1 point. At the end of each school term, the points are calculated and the winning year group receives a treat. Last year’s treats included a craft afternoon, ice lollies and a film of choice.

Children are provided with the weekly scores in their Friday assemblies and this reminds children about the importance of school attendance, as well as creating some healthy competition amongst the year groups.

At the start of the autumn term, we made a conscious decision not to promote attendance as we have done previously. This was due to the tragic event that took place over the summer holidays. We would just like to say how extremely proud we are of all of our children - they have shown such resilience.

We understand that families can experience challenges which consequently affect their child’s attendance. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s attendance, please speak to our Attendance Officer, Mrs Welsh, who is part of the pastoral team. She is happy to help and support where needed.
