Year 3
Half-term: Spring 2
In Year 3, we believe that homework should consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and engage the children to share this new knowledge with their families. The activities chosen below are directly relevant to the Year 3 curriculum in school
Please choose and complete at least 6 activities from the grid over the course of the half-term. Homework can be recorded in the homework book or brought into school in any other form (photos, posters etc) where appropriate. We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work, therefore we expect each homework task to be completed with care and to the best of your ability.
As part of our weekly homework offer in Year 3:
• Please continue to aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week.
• We would also like your child to continue to practise their times tables at home
• To support with our reading and writing work in school, we will now start to send home each week a spelling rule and linked words so you are aware of what is being covered as part of our work in school. This rule will be taught and practised throughout the following week in school and we wanted to send this home so, where possible, children can practise this at home. Children will have the chance to learn, practise and apply this rule in class through a range of activities and quizzes as part of our RWI spelling programme.
Thank you for your continued support.
Instruction Writing
This half term we are looking at writing instructions. Can you find examples of instructions around your home? Then write your own set of instructions. Examples:
- For a game
- A recipe
- How to build or make something
- How to use an appliance
Plants
Draw a variety of plants or flowers that you see in your garden or when you are out and about. Can you label the different parts of the plant and explain what each part does?
Reading
Create a set of inference questions about a book you are currently reading or another book that you like. Inference questions look at what is suggested but not actually said in the text. You need to read between the lines and find the hidden meaning or look for clues. There are some examples of inference questions in the back of your yellow reading diaries to help you.
Southport
We will be learning about different types of settlements in the UK and New Delhi and comparing how land is used. Find another Southport in another part of the world and compare it to our Southport in England. What is the same, what is different?
Treasure hunters!
Have a go at designing your own treasure hunt either in your garden or at home, thinking about the skills we learned in PE last half term. With Easter on its way you could even design your own Easter egg hunt!
PSHE
This half term we are learning about online safety and cyberbullying. Design a poster about staying safe online. Remember your poster needs to be eye catching and well presented with key information.
Measures
This half term we are learning about length and perimeter. Have a go at measuring different objects or areas around your house. Use different units of measurement where you can. You could photograph yourself measuring different objects. Why not try to measure the perimeter of a room if you have a measuring tape?
Art – Light and Dark
This half term we are learning how to use tints and shades to develop our art skills. Sketch an object or a room at two different times of the day to capture the different shades.

Spanish
We are learning shapes in Spanish this half term. Find and draw or take pictures of different shapes in your home and identify them in Spanish.
