CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW Message to Supporters Schulich’s Leading Change Campaign was launched at a pivotal time in our School’s history. Schulich had just celebrated its 50th Anniversary, and we were laying the foundation for the future. The goal: raise $50 million to support future growth and innovation, and deepen the lifelong connection that alumni have with the School through increased engagement opportunities.
I am grateful for each gift and every hour volunteered. For me, it has been one of my greatest honours to serve as your Dean throughout the Campaign and to present this Campaign Completion Report to you.
Because of you, Leading Change was the School’s most comprehensive and ambitious fundraising and alumni engagement campaign to date. Through a focus on five transformational pillars – campus expansion, research and discovery, innovative thinking, student success and alumni engagement, we set out to attract new resources, provide support to mobilize the alumni community, foster partnerships and create learning opportunities that enrich the Schulich student experience.
Thanks to your support, our community has access to an expanded learning environment that redefines sustainable architecture, expanded scholarship, award and bursary offerings, an even wider variety of innovative programs, and the opportunity to engage in new experiential learning and collaborations with external stakeholders.
At the core of Leading Change’s success are the thousands of alumni and friends who came together to contribute to the Campaign in significant ways, many for the first time.
Within these pages, you’ll find stories about the importance and impact of your generosity, including the award-winning McEwen Building that you helped build, a Schulich alumna’s inspiration for a new award in sustainability, and how legacy giving by alumni and friends has created extraordinary enhancements benefiting students and faculty of today and tomorrow. Congratulations on your role in this incredible success story.
Sincerely,
Thank you for Leading Change! Click here to view the video.
Thanks to your support, not only did we meet the $50 million goal, we exceeded it ahead of schedule and raised more than $15 million above our goal!

LAYING THE FOUNDATION From 2011 to 2016, prior to the public launch of the Leading Change Campaign, supporters rallied behind the vision of Leading Change and pledged their early support to the Campaign. These important investments provided a strong launch pad for the Campaign’s future success and inspired others to join the Leading Change movement. In the next few pages, some of these early and significant investments and milestones are highlighted, all of which were associated with the pre-launch period and fundamental to Leading Change’s overall success. Schulich and the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Ontario have partnered in several ways throughout Leading Change. From establishing the CPA Ontario Chair in International Entrepreneurship in 2011, with an initial investment of $2 million, to co-founding the pioneering Centre for Global Enterprise in 2013, CPA Ontario’s strong partnership and investment continue to play a vital role in the School’s success. More recently, Schulich and CPA Ontario joined forces to establish the CPA Ontario Centre in Digital Financial Information advancing the accounting profession, and to focus on building digital financial expertise, delivering and disseminating exceptional research and thought leadership, and growing the network related to digital accounting information.
Professor Moren Lévesque has held the CPA Ontario Chair in International Entrepreneurship since 2012
HARNESSING THE POWER OF CANADA’S SMEs FOR GLOBAL SUCCESS The Centre for Global Enterprise (CGE) launched in 2013 as a one-stop consulting, research, and teaching hub. CGE helps Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to compete internationally, and draws on the School’s long and successful track record in outreach activities with the global business community. Combining teaching and research in the fields of international business and entrepreneurship, the CGE has achieved impressive results since its launch 7 years ago. Guided by a first-rate advisory council comprised of leading professionals, the CGE is a resource hub for SMEs to build on their domestic success by taking advantage of vast networks and global connections. Thank you to our Founding Members for their commitment and support of the CGE: • Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA) • Export Development Canada (EDC) • RBC • Scotiabank

DONOR SPOTLIGHT For more than three decades, RBC has been a loyal and generous partner supporting the growth of the School. MBA Games Reception, 2018
As one of the proud Founding Members associated with the Centre for Global Enterprise, RBC’s $2 million donation has supported the creation of new knowledge and its dissemination across the SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) sector, through the production of six annual enterprise forums (since 2015) bringing together stakeholders in the SME ecosystem, invested in new leadership resources to propel CGE’s mission forward, as well as significantly expand global learning opportunities for students studying international markets. The RBC International Market Expansion Program provided significant financial assistance to Schulich student teams travelling to a target market destination as part of the program. RBC also believes in championing student success for them to reach their full potential. Since 2013, RBC has proudly sponsored the Schulich team’s participation in the national MBA Games, a three-day competition with over 600 students from MBA programs across Canada competing in academic, athletic, and spirit challenges.
Representing a collaboration between the Bata Foundation and Schulich’s Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business, events have run since 2010 in Canada and abroad. The inaugural Lecture featured Ratan N. Tata (Hon LLD ‘14).
Innovation and discovery in the classroom SAS Canada powered cutting-edge learning opportunities for students in the Master of Business Analytics program through a generous donation of software licences and training for the SAS Analytics Suite.
Classroom and research experiences with the very best Donors expanded Schulich’s global research prominence by funding six new chairs and professorships including: the Ron Binns Chair in Entrepreneurship, the Bob Finlayson Chair in International Finance, and the Ann Brown Chair in Organization Studies were supported by the Schulich Foundation. In addition, the Inmet Mining Chair in Global Mining Management, the Export Development Canada Professorship in International Business, and the CPA Ontario Chair in International Entrepreneurship were established in the Campaign’s pre-public launch period.
Re-Imagining Capitalism – a global movement In 2012, Schulich hosted a global forum entitled “Capitalism for the Long Term”. The Forum brought together a group of CEOs, policymakers, and other stakeholders to exchange ideas around capitalism and its future. The forum inspired the publication of a thought-provoking new book Re-Imagining Capitalism.
Competitive advantage for Schulich students focusing on international business Through an investment by Export Development Canada, Schulich established the Certificate in International Management designed to enable students to jump-start their careers with SMEs gearing up to go global.

Campus Expansion Leading Change envisioned the creation of a cutting-edge physical environment that would foster creativity, nurture innovation, and provide community inclusivity and barrier-free access. In 2019, the award-winning Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Study & Research Building opened its doors, delivering on this vision in a big way. Designed by the award-winning international architectural firm Baird Sampson Neuert Architects, the 67,000-square-foot Building answered the School’s critical need for increased study and social space, modern research facilities, and a learning environment that represented Schulich’s long-standing commitment to sustainability.

Celebrating Leadership and Excellence Philanthropic visionaries Rob McEwen, CM (MBA ’78, Hon LLD ’05) and Cheryl McEwen (Hon LLD ’19) fuelled a new level of transformation at Schulich with their donation of $8 million – one of the largest gifts ever received by the School. In honour of their incredible support for the next generation of responsible business leaders, the Building was named in honour of their remarkable support pledged in 2017.
“ We are very grateful and so proud to have this opportunity to support the School’s new Graduate Study & Research Building. As long-time members of the Schulich alumni community, we are thrilled by the transformational developments that have taken place at Schulich and that have helped it earn recognition as one of the world’s leading business schools.” ROB McEWEN, CM (MBA ’78, Hon LLD ’05) and CHERYL McEWEN (Hon LLD ’19)

DONOR AND VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT “The opening of the McEwen Building was such a memorable moment for all of us in the MBA Class of 1968. We had just celebrated our 50th Anniversary and were so happy to be able to mark our relationship with the School in this special way. For many of us, we are connected with the School and each other at a level like never before. We would like to take credit but rather it is to Schulich’s credit that subsequent generations continue to engage and give back.” RON SIDON (MBA ‘68)
The MBA Class of 1968 celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the School (pictured above) by reuniting as a class at the 50th Anniversary Gala, held at the Four Seasons on May 27, 2016. Inspired to stay connected, the MBA Class of 1968 came forward with a collective gift to Leading Change. In honour of their support for the future generation of leaders, the elevator in the new McEwen Building was named The MBA Class of 1968 Elevator.

Greatest Wealth is Health The Colleen and Brian Johnston Wellness Suite was designed as a space for the Schulich community to retreat, recharge and refuel. Through the introduction of programs and initiatives including stress management, blood pressure clinics, therapy dogs and more, the School’s focus on occupant well-being has been amplified. Programming in the Wellness Suite is delivered through new collaborations with York University’s Faculty of Health and its School of Nursing, and soon, the School of Kinesiology and Health Science. This programming collaboration is designed to provide valuable experiential learning opportunities for students.
DONOR SPOTLIGHT “I’m grateful for the superb university education from Schulich which has served me well, but I definitely can’t say I was a fitness enthusiast in university! However, I’ve discovered over the years that a focus on health and vitality is so important to enjoying life and balancing family, career and community commitments. My advice to students – be kind to yourself – make health and wellness a priority.” COLLEEN JOHNSTON (BBA ‘82, Hon LLD ’18) Chair of The Board of Directors, Unity Health Canada; Dean’s Advisory Council

The Krembil Effect The Krembil name has deep meaning at the Schulich School of Business. First, Robert Krembil, CM (MBA ‘71, Hon LLD ’00) and his grandson Jake Krembil (MMgt ‘18) are both proud graduates. Second, the Krembil family’s philanthropy to the School has generated substantial impact through the Krembil Scholars Program established by Robert Krembil. Since the launch of the Scholars program in 2001, more than 120 students have benefited from this critical and prestigious financial support. In June 2020, the Krembil Foundation announced a transformative $5 million investment to establish a new Centre of Excellence in Health Management and Leadership. The gift will also create a new chair to scale the Centre and deepen sector and industry collaborations. Included in the June 2020 announcement was the expansion of the Krembil Public Healthcare Internship and Krembil Scholars programs.

CAMPAIGN PILLAR — STUDENT SUCCESS
Preparing Leaders of Tomorrow During the Campaign, several new donor-funded initiatives were established, all designed to enrich the Schulich student experience and provide real-world, hands-on learning opportunities. For example, the York University Student Investment Fund (YUSIF) launched in 2016 to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain real-time portfolio management and investment experience. Under the guidance of an impressive team of volunteer mentors from leading firms across Canada and YUSIF’s Executive-in-Residence, Anthony Faiella (MBA ’92) at Schulich, students focus on the long-term growth of the Fund’s assets and operate the day-to-day of the Fund to simulate a real investment boutique, including weekly meetings, portfolio reviews, and presentations. As part of Schulich’s commitment to high-value experiential learning, students undergo a rigorous interview process to become involved with YUSIF and can also receive course credit for their work on YUSIF.
YUSIF, York University’s Inv estment Fund is managed by a team of und ergraduate students with a keen interest in fina nce and investing
Thanks to the generosity of alumni, friends, and York University, YUSIF has grown substantially over the years, with more than $260,000 in donated capital.
DONOR AND VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT “As an alumnus, I am proud to support YUSIF. Mentoring and training tomorrow’s leaders is so important. I have been impressed by the calibre and enthusiasm of students I have worked with during the development of YUSIF.” GEORGE ENGMAN (MBA ’80) Senior Vice President, Alberta Investment Management Corporation (retired); YUSIF Founding Member & Advisory Council Member
LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM Generous donors to Leading Change helped to establish Student Experience Funds associated with some of Schulich’s leading academic specializations and programs. Designed to provide unique learning experiences that are hands-on and go beyond the classroom, Student Experience Funds help subsidize the cost of faculty-led field trips and tours of relevant industrial sites and institutions, special guest lectures, global case competitions, career networking events, and more. DONOR SPOTLIGHT As part of its $1,000,000 contribution, Scotiabank invested in student success and innovation by designating support toward the Centre for Global Enterprise, and also the creation of the Scotiabank Global Scholars Program, which has supported more than 40 talented students entering Schulich’s MBA programs. The Program expanded the level of student impact already in place through the Scotiabank International Scholarship endowment, as well as academic chairs supported by the Bank. In honour of the generous pledge, and Scotiabank’s cumulative support at Schulich, a term-funded Chair – the Scotiabank Chair in International Finance – was created for a five-year period beginning July 1, 2013. As well, in recognition of the unique nature of the student scholarship investment in Schulich and the long-standing deep relationship, Schulich named Scotiabank as a permanent “Founding Member” of the Centre for Global Enterprise.
CASE COMPETITION CHAMPIONS It is a proud tradition of Schulich alumni to provide support for the Schulich Annual Fund. Through the Annual Fund’s highest priorities designation, donors have provided critical funding to support Schulich students as they participate in case competitions across the globe. Thanks to alumni gifts, students received bursary funds to help cover registration fees, food, travel, and accommodations, lessening the overall financial burden associated with these important learning experiences.

ACCELERATING ANALYTICS & ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Deloitte and the Schulich School of Business are shaping the way to developing analytics and AI talent through a unique and innovative collaboration. Located on the second floor of the Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Study & Research Building, the Deloitte Cognitive Analytics & Visualization Lab is a hotbed of collaboration, innovation, and research, created to foster advances in the interpretation of big data and artificial intelligence. The Lab and its related consulting project – a first in Canada – is where Schulich’s MBAN and MMAI students dig into real data, spending two terms understanding the business problem and gaining insights into real issues facing organizations. Students communicate and collaborate with sponsoring organizations while using the latest technologies, accessed on a cloud-based platform, to analyze rich data sets. The Lab is powered by cutting-edge commercial technologies and platforms as well as open source technologies. It mirrors many of the same technologies used in industry, allowing students to hit the ground running following graduation. INSPIRING SUCCESS FOR THE FUTURE
Schulich alumni play a pivotal role not only in strengthening the Schulich brand through their own achievements, but in reinforcing the Schulich spirit of volunteerism and paying it forward to the next generation of leaders. Over the course of the Leading Change Campaign, notable Schulich alumni have volunteered to host Alumni Open Houses at their corporate offices to provide learning opportunities and deepen connections among employee teams bonded by a shared alumni connection to Schulich.
Committed to deepening its level of engagement within the Schulich community, members of the Schulich Chinese Alumni Network (S.C.A.N.) based in Toronto, initiated a very successful alumni volunteer-led fundraising campaign in the School. Led by Yang Xiao (IMBA ’16), President and Renyuan Luo (IMBA ‘17), Marketing Coordinator, S.C.A.N. members from Canada and China rallied behind Leading Change and raised funds toward the construction of the Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Study & Research Building. This generous support underscores S.C.A.N.’s passion for fostering lifelong relationships with their alma mater and creating opportunities for current and future generations of Schulich students. The S.C.A.N. Connector – the path that links the main Schulich Building to the new McEwen Building – is named in their honour.

A FITTING TRIBUTE Ties between the Halpern family and the Schulich School of Business run deep. York University has graduated 8 members of the Halpern family, including Jeff Halpern (BBA ‘78), his daughter Ilana Halpern (BBA ’06) and his brother Howard Halpern (BBA ’82), as well as Joshua Halpern (MBA/JD ’14), and Sharon Freedman (MBA ’84), all of whom graduated from the Schulich School of Business.
As a member of the International Advisory Council at Schulich since 2004, Jeff was intrigued by the Leading Change Campaign, in particular the opportunity to help support his alma mater’s future success. Jeff became the first Schulich alum to support Leading Change. His enthusiastic early support of the Campaign inspired many other alumni to follow in his footsteps.
When Jeff Halpern (BBA ’78) attended the Faculty of Administrative Studies (FAS, as it was known then), finances were tight. His father passed away when he was in high school and the family had very limited funds. But that didn’t stop Jeff from pursuing his dreams of attending business school and to this day Jeff recounts how supportive and encouraging all the faculty and staff at FAS were. In particular, Jeff recalls the incredible support and mentorship of Charmaine Courtis, who was working at FAS, and later became the Executive Director, Student Services and International Relations. Charmaine worked at Schulich for more than 40 years and retired in 2013.
In honour of Jeff’s gift to the Campaign, the School named a space inside the Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Study & Research Building. Jeff was delighted by the recognition, but he wanted to ensure he could recognize Charmaine Courtis for her tireless devotion to students. When you visit the G212 Faculty Office on the second floor, you will find a plaque naming the space in honour of Charmaine because of Jeff and Nancy Halpern’s generosity and kindness.
“Leading Change is all about not sitting back and doing nothing or watching others do something positive. It’s about each of us taking a role as leaders to do whatever we can to make a difference.” JEFF HALPERN (BBA ’78), Business Succession Advisor, TD Wealth

Agnes Orosz (MBA ’96) and Wojtek Niebrzydowski (MBA ’86)
DONOR SPOTLIGHT CREATING LASTING IMPACT ON THE SCHOOL AND ITS NEXT GENERATION Agnes Orosz (MBA ’96) and Wojtek Niebrzydowski (MBA ’86) are passionate about education and helping others benefit from the same opportunities they had. Agnes and Wojtek immigrated to Canada prior to attending Schulich, and both forged successful careers in the financial sector. Proud alumni through and through, the couple has championed student success through the establishment of the “Agnes Orosz and Wojtek Niebrzydowski MBA Entrance Award”, the naming of the “Agnes Orosz (MBA ‘96) and Wojtek Niebrzydowski (MBA ‘86) PhD Research Office” in the McEwen Building, as well as actively mentoring students through the alumni2student mentorship program operated by the Alumni Relations department. Schulich holds a special place in the hearts of both graduates and they are proud to also be legacy donors to the School. Through their will, they have provided funds to continue their support of student success.
“In this complex and challenging world, it is incumbent on all alumni to champion the School and to help students, whether financially, through mentoring, or some other way, so that they in turn can help others.” AGNES OROSZ (MBA ‘96), Associate Director, Group Risk Management, RBC; and WOJTEK NIEBRZYDOWSKI (MBA ‘86), Vice President, Treasury, CIBC Alumni and friends celebrating Schulich’s 50th Anniversary Gala at the Four Seasons, Toronto, 2016 LEADING CHANGE | Campaign Completion Report

CAMPAIGN PILLAR — ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT
THE POWER OF LEGACY GIVING During Leading Change, a number of alumni and friends confirmed legacy gifts to support the School in the future. Legacy donors are welcomed into the White Rose Legacy Circle at York University in honour of the special role their future commitments will have. Legacy giving supports Schulich’s vision for the future and provides the confidence that can only come from financial security and the support of our
alumni. Legacy giving keeps Schulich among the world’s leading business schools and ahead of the curve as it provides a steady source of future resources. Legacy gifts realized during the Campaign, more than $4 million, have helped the School establish new scholarships (both endowed and term-funded), as well as provide critical funding to support the new Building and enhance the student experience.
THE GEORGE SVEC (MBA ’69) AND KATHERINE MEANEY SVEC COURTYARD To celebrate the incredible generosity of George Svec (MBA ’69) and Katherine Meaney Svec, the School named the exterior Courtyard of the Rob and Cheryl McEwen Graduate Student & Research Building in honour of the late couple. The Courtyard is highly visible from all levels of the Schulich complex and encompasses seamless indoor and outdoor experiences. Legacy donors, like George and Katherine, are recognized on the School’s Lifetime Donor Wall, as well as on the Schulich Alumni Donor Wall and on special naming plaques to celebrate their generosity in perpetuity. Each legacy gift helps significantly to benefit our students and our School tomorrow. To learn more about legacy giving at Schulich, click here.
