ABOUT ME I am a 24 year old architect from India, currently based in Dubai. I love everything that has to do with architecture and interior design and have a growing curiosity towards various fields of design. I have worked for a little more than 2 years as an architect and freelance designer, with experience in the office as well as on site. The projects I have worked on range from villas, restaurants, cafĂŠ, retail stores to graphics for exhibitions and 3D renders.

WORK EXPERIENCE INTERIOR DESIGN 1SITEFUSION ARCHITECT YEAR-TILL DATE

My responsibilities were to make sure that the design being executed on site was completed on time and to ensure quality of the project. I had to coordinate with the office for materials and workers required, and have constant discussion with the client regarding design changes and providing solution to issues faced on site. Certain scenarios needed me to coordinate with the mall management for approvals. Projects that I have been involved in range from Retail to restaurants + café .

he brief for the project was to design an oncology hospital that consisted of a research institute, a residential block for the doctors/nurses/assistants, and an auditorium. The site is located in Nashik (Maharashtra) in an area of about 23000sqm. The Oncology Hospital had to accommodate 150 inpatients and include its own Radiology and Radiotherapy departments. My approach towards the project was to design a functional building that gave the hospital character, with the intent to make the building unique as well as providing the area with a landmark. The concept led to the structures distinctive form, green spaces within the structure were created, and other vistas which would direct ones attention towards these spaces, and away from patients. This along with an interesting play of natural light in the structure enhanced the quality of these spaces, giving visitors and patients different experiences as they moved through the different spaces yet keeping the layout functional and easy for people to understand.

The project was to design a vacation home for a client, in a site which is located at the sea face, in Jumeirah (Dubai). The villa is an extension of a hotel, which occupied a major portion of the site. During the process I was involved in providing drawings of plans section, elevation and details under the supervision of a Senior Architect.

REDEFINING PUBLIC RETAIL SPACES JUNE 2014

ERGA PROGRESS ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS

The AIM of this thesis is to get an understanding of Public Spaces and the various aspects that go into making the Public Space The OBJECTIVE of the Thesis is to utilize the knowledge gained through the study of public spaces and design a GOOD QUALITY PUBLIC SPACE within the scope of the thesis. As Public Space is a very vast subject. MUMBAI has a large population and few open and public spaces that are easily accessible and are open to all age groups to use freely. Most public spaces are the waterfronts and the maidans(parks). Apart from these spaces there are places which have the potential to be good public spaces and are not used to its full potential due to the lack of facilities and other factors. Public spaces being a very vast subject, the thesis will focus on retail oriented spaces. References would be taken from spaces around the world to get a broader idea about public spaces, pedestrian malls, and malls. The case studies would be primarily done in the context of India

Alternate uses of these spaces and to understand how these spaces function The concept of how public spaces are changes over time. The public spaces examined in the dissertation are open spaces ,retail spaces, shopping precincts . Privately owned public space are also seen. ZONIING + CONCEPT •The intention is to make the whole space as a breathing space in the city. •Blending the retail space and open space with each other, where people can comes and utilizes the space freely. •The idea of a space where all are welcome allowing interaction with the full spectrum of society, that allows it to be fully social. •The goal is to design a space where the building and its environment are not disconnected from each other instead are combined as one body. •The idea is that the open and public spaces could coexist and benefit one another rather than can causing a hindrance to the other. •The presence of an easily accessible green open area would draw people to come and use these spaces for various purposes, and in turn creates the possibilities of more customers for the retail outlets. It would also act as space for advertising. • On the other hand the retail space (mall) ensures the spaces around are maintained, guarantees the provision of good public facili ties and most of all looks after the safety of the people within the area. •The presence of open areas would allow for the flexibility of use of these spaces when required. This space would give a sense of ownership and let people choose the kind of activity they would want to indulge in.
