· Student organizations must comply with the nondiscrimination policy set forth by SCI-Arc. The student organization may not deny membership on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, gender, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, or political affiliation.

· Student organizations must reserve space for meetings/activities through the Space Reservation Form on my.sciarc.edu. Meetings/activities may not conflict with scheduled classes or SCI-Arc sponsored events.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MINORITY ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS

The national organization of minority architecture students finds as minorities studying architecture, a community of purpose and culture experience that warrants our combined efforts in the advancement of our future profession, our respective activities in it, and the needs of the communities we will serve.

Their purpose is to foster communication, cooperation, solidarity, and fellowship among minority students of architecture. Minority status includes, but not limited to persons of African dissent, American Indians, Asians, and Spanish surnamed Americans are deemed to include all persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban or Latin American origin. Eskimos and Aleuts are to be included in the American Indian classification while native Hawaiians shall be included in the Asians classification.

Women, lesbian, and gay students are also included in the definition of minority Architecture student. Whereas the activities are geared towards of these minority groups, membership and activities are open to anyone who believes in and support the goals, bylaws, and spirit of NOMAs. STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

Student Health Insurance Plan

SCI-Arc requires that all full-time and part-time degree-seeking students who are enrolled in academic units have health insurance coverage.

The SCI-Arc student health insurance plan (SHIP) is designed specifically for all SCI-Arc students. It provides essential health benefits, as defined by the Federal Health Insurance mandate, as well as coverage for doctor’s visits, surgery, mental health care, and much more. Dependents of SCI-Arc students are not eligible to enroll in this plan.

The student health insurance fee for the 2022–2023 academic year is $3,180 for students who enroll in the fall term. The coverage begins on September 6, 2022 and continues through September 4, 2023 (coverage for Graduate Thesis students continues through September 10, 2023).

Students who enroll only in the spring/summer terms will be charged a prorated $2,120 fee. Coverage for these students will begin on May 1, 2023 and continues through September 4, 2023.

Students have the option to waive the SCI-Arc Student Health Insurance Plan only if they can show proof of comparable health insurance coverage. All waiver requests must be completed by the announced deadline through the online Waiver Portal.

All outside health insurance coverage must meet the following requirements:

· Coverage must be active on September 6, 2022 and must remain active through September 4, 2023 (for Graduate Thesis students the coverage must be extended through September 10, 2023). · Your plan year deductible is no more than $1,000. · Your Annual Maximum Plan Benefits must equal $500,000 or greater. · For international students, the plan must have at least $25,000 of repatriation coverage and $25,000 of medical evacuation coverage.

· Plans must be operated and based in the United States and must be in full compliance with applicable federal laws. International students may not waive with insurance from their home country.

Mental Health Counseling

Every student enrolled at SCI-Arc is offered up to two (2) free counseling/personal consultation meetings with a licensed clinical psychologist. For assistance, please visit the Campus Life tab on my.sciarc.edu or contact the Student Services Specialist.

Students generally use this service for one of the following reasons:

· Work quality/productivity level below usual baseline · Experiencing excessive stress/pressure/loss of perspective · Questioning where they are/what they are doing · Problems with relationship(s) or relating to others · Experiencing major transitions or losses · Confidence/self-esteem difficulties

Being short-term in nature, this service is not designed to address severe psychological problems or medication-related issues.

In case of a psychiatric emergency, students should call 9-8-8 and ask for the Psychiatric Emergency Team (PET), or visit a hospital. 9-8-8 provides every community an alternative to calling police (calling 9-1-1) when managing a crisis related to mental health. This number will also connect you to the Veterans Crisis Line.

· For life-threatening emergencies, call 9-1-1 · For mental health emergencies, call 9-8-8 · For free, confidential referral and information service that will connect you to a specialist who will help you find the local resources you need.

Virtual Care Group

The Virtual Care Group (VCG) offers mental health counseling sessions for all SCIArc students physically located in the US. These services are available 24 hours/ day, every day of the year. An unlimited number of calls can be made to VCG. The services are available in over 250 languages, and are paid for by SCI-Arc .
