Come hear some relevant data based on the recent Bowker/PubTrack survey that supports this, and learn how you can use your member benefits to better market your store to increase sales. Presented by ABA 10:30 AM —11:45 PM: Children’s Sales Reps Pick of the List Southern California sales reps present their favorites for the holiday season, and give us a preview of what’s coming in 2012. This session is open to teachers & librarians as well as booksellers. . This session is open to teachers & librarians as well as booksellers. Consumer Behavior Revealed Getting close to your customer is a lot like dating them: the better you know one another, the more successful your relationship will be. Studies show that the same consumer behaves differently at different times. Sometimes customers are price conscious, sometimes brand conscious, sometimes seeking a unique experience. This informative, entertaining session will show you how to better identify and understand who your customers really are. Pre-
sented by ABA.
12:00 PM Authors Lunch (See page 5 for information) 2:00 PM—3:00 PM: Pen Fatale YA Panel Join Young Adult authors Jessica Brody (My Life Undecided, Farrar, Straus & Giroux), Alyson Noel (Dreamland, Square Fish) & Mary Pearson (The Fox Inheritance, Henry Holt & Co.). Each author will do a short reading from their books and then discuss what they think about when considering who their audience is and how booksellers and librarians can reach those audiences. After each author presents there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion. Authors will be signing their books immediately following the panel. This session is open to teachers & librarians as well as booksellers. Moderated by Lauren Peugh, Mrs. Nelson’s Toy & Book Shop. Consumer Centric Solutions: How to Cultivate Profits & Incremental Sales through E-Commerce Business Modeling During this interactive session we will share an overview of industry trends, review profit models for in-store, online, and combined merchandising solutions, and discuss the marketing tactics and applications necessary to share your store’s message to consumers including general interest, niche subject area, academic & professional customer types, all in an effort to regain market share. The audience will be lead through an income statement build and a comparison to large competitor bookstore financial statements. Presented by Baker & Taylor Sales Reps Pick of the List Southern California sales reps present their favorites for the holiday season, and give us a preview of what’s coming in 2012. This session will end at 3:30 PM. 3:15 PM – 4:15 PM What Can SBA Do For Your Bookstore? The resources of the U.S. government’s Small Business Administration (SBA) offer a wide range of assistance to new and established booksellers, including loans, loan guarantees, business counseling, and other forms of support. ABA and SBA have established a strategic alliance in order to streamline the delivery of SBA services, improve communications, and help ensure that booksellers seeking working capital have the best chance possible of securing loans and lines of credit. Come to this session, introduced by ABA, and hear directly from SBA representatives about the programs and opportunities for booksellers. There will also be an opportunity to meet one-on-one with SBA staff. Presented by SBA

Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater from Maggie… All of my life decisions have been based around my inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you're a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which I've tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists, musicians, and artists (I've made my living as one of these since I was 22).
