Where to Find Help

Where to Find Help

Though these next few years will undoubtedly foster positive change and personal development, we also recognize that some days may not always run smoothly. Western recognizes that many students deal with mental health obstacles and emotional distress, which is why we provide a variety of professional resources on and off campus to help and support you. Remember that your fellow Mustangs will always be there to cheer you on—especially amidst the uncertainty caused by the current pandemic. Even if we can’t be close physically, stay in touch with one another and reach out for support if you or a friend are ever going through hard times. We’re here to help.

Academic Counselling:

Academic Counselling is the number one source for navigating through your years as a Western student. Drop-in counselling is the fastest way to meet with an academic advisor during operable hours, whereas less time-sensitive issues such as second degrees or exchange can be better resolved with booked appointments through scibmsac@uwo. If you have a quick inquiry, take advantage of walk-in counselling sessions and SciSnapChat. Keep in mind, however, that the centre tends to get very crowded – particularly during Intent to Register (ITR) season as many others need advice on advancing their degree. Thus, we recommend that you assess and organize your inquiries prior to your visit so that your issues can be resolved in a matter of minutes.

Student Health Services

As the primary clinical mode of care on campus, Student Health Services provides both physical and mental health care for the campus population. A counselling team of social workers, physician psychotherapists, and on staff-psychiatrists are readily available to students in order to help with treatment plans and crisis support. For gender-diverse students with unique needs, the Trans Care Team works to provide mental health & wellness counselling and medical care to students within an LGBTQIA2S+ affirmative environment. In response to the spread of COVID-19, Health & Wellness will now adopt a full-time virtual model and part-time clinical model of care. Therefore, it is best to book an appointment as early as possible.

Wellness Education Centre (WEC)

If you prefer a more personalized and empathetic approach to mental health as opposed to the clinical mode of care found at Student Health Services, the WEC is the place for you! The Wellness team consists of coordinators, peer educators, and volunteers, all with a mission to foster learning and growth alongside a lifelong commitment to wellness education. With the help of self-care strategies, interactive workbooks, guided meditation technology, special events and more, the centre allows you to develop approaches to wellness and stress management that are sure to outlive your days at Western. Best of all, you can drop in anytime during operable hours! No appointment is needed.

Crisis Lines

Beyond our campus resources, Western University also endorses several crisis lines in the London area. It’s always great to keep these numbers handy! Seeing as some of you may be living outside of the London area for the year, it’s good to look into services available to you.
