STAR PRIZE 2 paintings by Helga Chart ! Our wow prize for the Silent Auction this year is an oil painting by well established Scottish artist Helga Chart. Helga was born in Edinburgh and studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1962-1967. A lecturer in art and design, she pursued a career in painting and now paints on a full-time basis. Helga has won many awards including the RSW Sir William Gillies Award in 2007. Helga is a long time resident of the Grange. ! 'Ye Shall Have a Fishy' was inspired by sculptures Helga came across in the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden and Museum in St Ives. The fish are collages which have then been incorporated into the painting. The traces of silver give a sense of movement to the painting which contrasts with the skeletal fish on the plate. It measures approx 51 cm x 51 cm.

‘A Cat in the Kitchen’ is a painting that records the ‘sneaky’ cat who knows that it is in forbidden territory but cannot resist the eternal temptations to chase a mouse. Painted in oil on canvas, the style is gestural impressionistic and designed to capture a fleeting moment in the kitchen. It measures approx 65 cm x 55 cm. There is a reserve price of £400.00 on this painting.
! ! Helga's son Aidan went to Sciennes for his early primary schooling and Helga remembers when the playground had 'just been done'. A few years ago now! She has kindly donated this painting to help us raise enough money to 'do the playground' again. . Many of Helga's works are in the £500.00-£700.00 price region.
