The Season So Far

Exec Committee
It’s spring again and great to see the emerging colours of the Meadows as we head outside after a rather challenging winter period. We are looking forward to the rapid improvement of our patch of turf as the weather improves! Despite the conditions, the last few months have been very busy at Sciennes FC. Behind the scenes the kit room refurbishment (one of our ‘grand plans’ from last season) has been completed. This will benefit the Club for years to come. Alongside the coaching training that a number of coaches took up this season, in November ten of the team completed a highly informative sports first aid course – essential skills for the Club On the football playing side, many of our teams are beginning to get into the array of spring league and cup fixtures against other schools – a chance to burn off some energy in friendly, competitive sporting endeavour! And in the remainder of the season we have one or two more grand plans to get underway – read Conrad Graham, Chairperson more on other pages!

Grand Plans #3
Signs of Spring on The Meadows
Sciennes FC is an inclusive club for girls and boys at all stages of football skills development. Similarly the leadership of the Club is fully inclusive and it is important and healthy for the Club that the children have both male and female role models from a coaching perspective and involved in the running of the Club. Unfortunately whilst there are and have been strong female role models in the Club, the number of women involved with coaching week to week is much lower than we want. Our grand plan is to change this situation! The starting qualifications to become a coach with Sciennes FC are very few: to get started the main pre-requisite is enthusiasm! Everything else can be picked up along the way. So if you are female and want to get involved at Sciennes FC, please drop note to the Club Secretary or to Fiona Maclean (P6/7 lead coach). Contact details are provided at the end of this newsletter.

Grand Plans #4 Sciennes FC has been open to boys and girls from P2. As a parent led club, one of the challenges for Sciennes FC is encouraging parents new to the Club to step up to help or lead the coaching. This was perhaps seen as even more difficult when parents were also new to the school, which is often the case with P1 parents. However, the Club has also been acutely aware of the interest in football from P1 and so this year we have the grand plan to introduce football to Sciennes pupils currently in P1 following the Easter break, starting 29th April. There’s quite a lot to work through logistically to turn this into a sustained new mode of operation for the Club, so we’ll take it a step at a time, but given the enthusiasm for football at Sciennes and the expressions of support for football for P1’s, we wanted to offer something new at Sciennes FC this season. Communications will be sent to all P1 parents very soon with guidance about how to sign up; and anyone reading this, interested in helping with P1 is encouraged to drop a note to the Secretary. Thanks!
