World Scientific Reference on Spin in Organics (In 4 Volumes)
edited by Zeev Valy Vardeny (University of Utah, USA), Markus Wohlgenannt (Universoty of Iowa, USA) This volume series summarizes the field of Organic Spintronics up to 2017. It contains four volumes dedicated to spin-injection, spin transport, spin pumping; organic magnetic field effect, and molecular spintronics. The field of Organic Spintronics has accelerated and matured in the last dozen years with the realization of an organic spin-valve (in 2004) and magnetoresistance and magneto-electroluminescence in organic optoelectronic devices (2006). The book series is comprehensive in that it summarizes all aspects of Organic Spintronics to date. The first two volumes deal with spin injection, spin transport, spin manipulation and spin pumping into organic semiconductors. The main device that is thoroughly discussed here is the organic spin-valve, where spinterface states at the interface between the organic semiconductor and the ferromagnetic (FM) electrode has been the focus of many chapters. An interesting emerging subject is the role of chirality in the organic layer of the device. A relatively new method of achieving spin aligned carriers in organic semiconductors is spin-pumping, where magnons in the FM substrate generate spin aligned carriers in the organic layer at the FM/ organic interface. The third volume deals mainly with magnetic field effect in organic devices. Several spin-mixture processes that lead to magnetic field effect in devices and films are thoroughly discussed, such as hyperfine interaction, direct spin-orbit coupling, indirect spin-orbit coupling via Δ g, triplet-triplet annihilation, and thermal spin alignment. The similarity between the magnetic field effect obtained in optoelectronic devices based on organic semiconductors and the novel hybrid organic-inorganic semiconductors is also a subject of intense interest. The fourth volume deals with spin in molecular films and devices. It includes thorough discussion of spin exchange interaction that leads to organic ferromagnets, as well as manifestation of various spin interactions in thin molecular films and devices. Readership: Advanced graduate students, scientists and researchers in the field of spintronics and related fields. 1500pp 978-981-3228-96-2

The WSPC Reference on Organic Electronics: Organic Semiconductors (In 2 Volumes) Volume 1: Basic Concepts Volume 2: Fundamental Aspects of Materials and Applications edited by Jean-Luc Bredas (King Abdullah University of Science & Technology, Saudi Arabia & Georgia Institute of Technology, USA), Seth R Marder (Georgia Institute of Technology, USA) This 2-volume set provides the reader with a basic understanding of the foundational concepts pertaining to the design, synthesis, and applications of conjugated organic materials used as organic semiconductors, in areas including organic photovoltaic devices, light-emitting diodes, field-effect transistors, spintronics, actuation, bioelectronics, thermoelectrics, and nonlinear optics. While there are many monographs in these various areas, the emphasis here is both on the fundamental chemistry and physics concepts underlying the field of organic semiconductors and on how these concepts drive a broad range of applications. This makes the volumes ideal introductory textbooks in the subject. A New Perspective on Transport (In 2 Parts) 2nd Edition
Readership: Any student and professional with an undergraduate degree in the physical sciences or engineering.
by Supriyo Datta (Purdue University, USA)
• Based on a physically insightful approach that not only conveys the key concepts of nanoelectronics, but also their relevance to other non-equilibrium problems like heat flow, spin flow and entropy flow • The chapters are keyed to video lectures from the online courses offered on nanoHUB-U and on edX • The author received the 2008 IEEE Technical Field Award for graduate teaching "for his unique approach to quantum transport that has inspired and educated graduate students in the field of nanoscale electronic devices" This book is based on a set of two online courses originally offered in 2012 on nanoHUB-U and more recently in 2015 on edX. In preparing the second edition the author decided to split it into parts A and B titled Basic Concepts and Quantum Transport respectively, along the lines of the two courses. A list of available video lectures corresponding to different sections of this volume is provided upfront. To make these lectures accessible to anyone in any branch of science or engineering, the author assume very little background beyond linear algebra and differential equations. However, the author will be discussing advanced concepts that should be of interest even to specialists, who are encouraged to look at his earlier books for additional technical details. Readership: Students and professionals in any branch of science or engineering.

Nanoelectronics A Molecular View
by Avik Ghosh (University of Virginia, USA) • The book connects ‘top-down’ concepts in solid-state devices taught in electrical engineering classes (e.g. MOSFETs, mobility, drift-diffusion) with ‘bottom-up’ approaches taught in physics and chemistry such as quantum transport, strong correlation effects, decoherence, hopping, Mott transitions and orbital chemistry • The book illustrates a lot of topics through hands-on exercises called ‘case-studies’. This extends to emerging materials like 2D, and emerging concepts like spintronics, nano-magnetic memory and logic • The book is timely and connects with emerging technology, especially with low- power electronics. A few chapters are devoted to applying concepts to understand the Boltzmann tyranny that plagues today’s devices. In other words, fundamental concepts are connected to neuromorphic processes, low-power logic and nonvolatile memory 524pp Nov 2016 978-981-3144-49-1 US$148 £123 978-981-3146-22-8(pbk) US$78 £65

Materials Science and Nanoscience 2018 NANOMATERIALS & NANOSTRUCTURES Disposable and Flexible Chemical Sensors and Biosensors Made with Renewable Materials
by Jaehwan Kim, Joo-Hyung Kim & Bong Sup Shim (Inha University, South Korea) Sensors for measuring and detecting chemical and biological substances are comprehensively used and are, for the most part, unobtrusive. They can help monitor our health through alerting us to chemical or biological changes in our bodies, our environment through checking air quality or pollution levels and they can contribute towards a more sustainable future. Polymer-based sensors are the subject of much attention due to their ability to collect molecules on their flexible sensory surfaces. However, most petroleumbased polymers are not renewable, leading to problems of waste-disposal. By using renewable materials, such as paper, cotton or starch, these problems can be overcome. This book reviews the current state-of-play in renewable-material-based chemical sensors and biosensors, and suggests applications in industry, environment and biomedicine. Readership: Graduate students and researchers of nanomaterials, nanoscience, and those interested in their applications in nanomedicine, biotechnology and the environment. 180pp Nov 2017 978-1-78634-386-4 US$98 £86 978-1-78634-387-1(ebook) US$147 £129
Nanomaterials for Energy Conversion and Storage
edited by Dunwei Wang (Boston College, USA) & Guozhong Cao (University of Washington, USA)
The use of nanomaterials in energy conversion and storage represents an opportunity to improve the performance, density and ease of transportation in renewable resources. This book looks at the most recent research on the topic, with particular focus on artificial photosynthesis and lithium-ion batteries as the most promising technologies to date.

Research on the broad subject of energy conversion and storage calls for expertise from a wide range of backgrounds, from the most fundamental perspectives of the key catalytic processes at the molecular level to device scale engineering and optimization. Although the nature of the processes dictates that electrochemistry is a primary characterization tool, due attention is given to advanced techniques such as synchrotron studies in operando. These studies look at the gap between the performance of current technology and what is needed for the future, for example how to improve on the lithium-ion battery and to go beyond its capabilities.
