Supplier of the Year Awards Luncheon (SOTY) July 16, 2015 Renaissance Hotel, Long Beach Celebrates outstanding certified MBE partnerships with member corporations. MBEs currently working with member corporations are nominated by corporate representatives and compete in the local competition for the "Supplier of the Year" award in four major categories, determined by the MBE’s gross annual revenues. Local winners are announced at the Supplier of the Year luncheon and receive awards, prestigious business scholarships, special recognition and compete in the regional and national competition for the NMSDC "Supplier of the Year" award.

LEA

• VIP reception (day preceding the luncheon): Provides sponsors, nominators, nominees and active participants of the SOTY process a time to reflect on accomplishments. Great opportunity for in-depth networking. • Luncheon: Attracts 500 attendees annually. Class winners and runners-up are announced at this event. • ‘Meet the Speaker’ series (immediately following the luncheon): Intimate Q&A with the keynote speaker from the luncheon, held in a ‘lounge’ setting.

Leadership Excellence Awards Dinner (LEA) October 2015 Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Beverly Hills Honors individuals and corporations that have taken on leadership roles in the field of supplier diversity. Attended by community and government dignitaries, corporate executives and business owners, three types of awards are presented during this dinner. The Leadership Excellence Award is presented to an outstanding individual who has advanced diversity efforts within the Southern California community and beyond. This visionary has gone against the mold to create, promote and implement progressive supplier diversity initiatives that support the growth of African-, Asian-, Native-, and Hispanic-American entrepreneurs. The Corporation of the Year Award is presented to an SCMSDC corporate member that has consistently provided tangible offerings to diverse entrepreneurs through training, development and the awarding of contracts. This company serves as an advocate, innovator and model within the field of supplier diversity. This award is presented by SCMSDC and its Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC), a committee that serves as the voice of SCMSDC’s 1,700 certified minority business enterprises. Recognition awards – the Corporate Innovator and Corporate Ambassador Awards – are presented based on a corporation’s innovative supplier diversity practices and community engagement. • Reception (immediately preceding the dinner): Meet-and-greet for all attendees. • Dinner: Attracts 400+ attendees annually. Leadership Excellence Award honoree presented with award. Recipi ents of recognition and Corporation of the Year awards announced at this event. • Networking lounge (immediately following the dinner): Live music, coffee and hors d’oeuvres.

‘The Power of Relationships’ Reverse Trade Fair Suppliers from a variety of industries exhibit products and services while representatives from major corporations and advocacy organizations visit booths. This event connects major corporations with suppliers doing business in Southern California. Attendance: 200.

MBE 2 MBE Open House MBE 2 MBE Open House events are specifically designed to provide an environment for MBEs to network and get to know each other, as well as meet select corporate members also invited to attend. Logistically, our objective is to hold these events in different geographic areas in our region to better reach SCMSDC’s far-flung base of certified MBEs. Philosophically, our goal is to build a greater sense of community among our MBEs and to even create opportunities for them to do business with and learn from each other. Bi-monthly, location varies.

MBE Orientation Two hour monthly meeting for MBEs already certified, in the process of becoming certified, or interested in becoming certified. Program includes learning about SCMSDC upcoming events and opportunities, leveraging MBE certification to reach business goals, determining if your company is “corporate ready”, meeting council staff, members of the MBEIC and select Corporate members. Last Thursday of each month, 2-4 pm at the SCMSDC Headquarters.

Communication Skills LIVE! Interactive program where entrepreneurs can learn tips and techniques to improve communication skills. Attendees present session specific speeches which are video-recorded onsite. Presentations are played back for the group so that communication experts can immediately provide useful feedback. Attendees receive video footage of their presentation and feedback after each session.

30 Second MBE: Elevator Pitch A 30-second pitch will be videotaped using professional lighting and microphones against a green screen. The completed video is sent to the participant and select videos are distributed to corporate representatives and MBEs monthly. Many MBEs attach their pitch to their email signature, websites, and other social media tools.

Toastmasters International This learn-by-doing workshop helps participants (both seasoned and novices) hone their speaking and leadership skills in a friendly and non-threatening atmosphere. SCMSDC’s version of the Toastmaster’s club is unique as it serves the interest of business owners and their employees by focusing on entrepreneurship, networking and business development.

Targeted Matchmaking This matchmaking opportunity can be held as an intimate event, mini reverse trade/exhibit fair or one-on-one interview session. Targeted matchmaking gives the corporation an opportunity to meet with suppliers who can fulfill the corporation’s specific procurement needs.

In-Kind Services Sponsorships or donations of in-kind services help support council events and activities. These services include, but are not limited to, printing, photography, videography, centerpieces and décor, giveaway/raffle items (airline or theme park tickets, etc.)
