NPO’S NOTE Dearest SCOPHeroes, Standing Committee on Public Health has always been a place for medical students to improve themselves as well as the quality of public health in the society. In CIMSA, we are facilitated with so many platforms on which Indonesian medical students can express their ideas and vision into various activities. The last 8 months has been a series of exciting journeys for our beloved Standing Committee. We are proud to have held our annual project, World Diabetes Day, in collaboration with the Health Ministry’s National Health Day. Also, we are thrilled to have several new local additions to our family, Universitas Jember as an official SCOPH local member and Universitas Sumatera Utara as our observer. Creating positive impact costs us lots of time and energy. As we keep on doing our best to actualize Sustainable Development Goals, we need a set of strategic methods in executing our current activities. That is why, this year, we hope to keep on developing our organization by refining SCOPH strategic plan for the next 3 years. Hence, we hope that you can be a part of this massive change. With so many exciting things to be shared, National Public Health Committee 2016/2017 is proud to present KaleidoSCOPH #11. Prepare yourself for a brand new CIMSA and be the change, as Steve Jobs once said, “Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world usually do.” Let’s Keep On Improving Nation’s Health, Shall We? Orange Hugs, Nathania Raphaeli Mulia National Public Health Officer CIMSA 2016/2017

Reasons other than cost to travel overseas for health care include better treatment, as well as avoiding long waiting lists and getting questions from colleagues and family. Indonesian trying to enter the medical tourism field by opening an international hospital with a partnership from one of the famous international hotel chain in Bali specifically targeting medical tourist with package and service but the fact is we haven’t make it to become the top 10 destinations for tourists seeking healthcare, such as Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. We need international marketing effort. We can learn how South Korea advertise their plastic surgery tourism package by endorsing one of Korean video blogger based in Indonesia to do 5 day plastic surgery treatment. The most important thing is we need more government support to create several policies to increasing the medical tourism market, such as reduction of taxation on imported medical equipment or creating of visa specifically for medical tourist.

This event held on Sunday, November 27th, 2016. We invite dr. Nadia from PERSADIA Solo, as the speaker for health promotion. After dr. Nadia’s session, we also give some explanation about our government’s programs; GERMAS. This is also our way to celebrate HKN (Hari Kesehatan Nasional) that commemorated on November 12th every year. We have a nice conversation with the citizens who queue for glucose and blood pressure check. GERMAS has three main activities; they are doing activities every 30 minutes per day, daily consuming fruits and vegetables, and routinely doing health check once every semester (minimum). We also held the campaign on Car Free Day in the same day but with different team. Every single event held in successful way, event there were some difficulties that can be handled. We hope after this project, SCOPHeroes increasing their knowledge about diabetes mellitus and people, especially in Solo and our desa binaan, can be more aware about diabetes mellitus and its complication. Also we hope that people will have more willing to do GERMAS.
