2nd Retrospective is the second piece in a series of orchestral pieces where I go back to earlier material and look at it in a different way. I do this mostly by re-composing existing material through my apps Gestrument and ScaleGen where I can import the ”musical DNA” of a piece and then see what else can be obtained from the same material.
At the writing of the first piece in this series 2016 (commissioned for the inauguration of the new Campus for the Royal College of Music in Stockholm) it was fifteen years since I graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2001. When I graduated it was fifteen years since I first started playing music in a local punk band in 1986. Therefore my graduation from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm marked half time of my active musical life, and that seemed like a good starting point for a new series of pieces that focus on retrospection and self-reflection
This, the second piece in this series will be premiered by Brandenburg Symfoniker. It is a commission that was awarded when my orchestral piece Ärr (part of the trilogy Röster) won the Brandenburg Biennale in 2014.

Jesper Nordin
Jesper Nordin (b. 1971) studied at the Royal College in Stockholm, at IRCAM in Paris and at Stanford University where he carried out research at the CCRMA studio. Electronic elements, folk, rock and improvisation inform his music. Conductors Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding and Kent Nagano have collaborated with Nordin; the S an Francisco Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Philharmonia Orchestra and Ensemble Intercontemporain have performed his music as well as soloists like Martin Fröst and Pekka Kuusisto. A s a developer he has founded the music tech startups Gestrument & Reactional Music that have released apps and interactive music for video games.
Jesper Nordin (*1971) studierte an der Königlichen Musikhochschule in Stockholm, bei Philippe Leroux am IRCAMInstitut in Paris und später bei Brian Ferneyhough an der Standford University, wo er auch am CCRMA-Studio forschte. Seine musikalische Sprache ist von elektronischen und folkloristischen Elementen, von Rock und Improvisation geprägt. Dirigenten wie Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding und Kent Nagano haben mit Nordin zusammengearbeitet; seine Werke wurden von der San Francisco Symphony, dem Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, dem Philharmonia Orchestra und dem Ensemble Intercontemporain, sowie Solisten wie Martin Fröst und Pekka Kuusisto aufgeführt. Als Entwickler hat er die Musiktechnologie-Startups Gestrument und Reactional Music gegründet, die Apps und interaktive Musik für Videospiele neu aufgelegt haben.
