Performance Instructions Pedalling The use of the sustain pedal is often explicitly notated in this score, particularly where it needs to be down for quite a while. Where it is not indicated (and where there is no indication desiring no pedalling at all) you may use the pedal as you see fit to add body to the tone quality. In these instances do not allow usage to obscure the clarity of harmonies or articulation.
Notation The pre-recorded electronic part is not fully notated. Only the vocal parts are given as they most often provide cues to action.
Technical Information The piano plays along with a pre-recorded electronic part containing both recorded vocals and computer-generated and modified sounds. This pre-recorded part exists in two formats as listed below: 8-channel digital tape (TASCAM DA-88 format) with 2 tracks audio (stereo playback) and 1 click track OR Stereo CD (playback only, no click) The piano should be amplified - using two microphones at least - and its sound should be mixed with that of the pre-recorded electronics and diffused through the front of house loudspeakers.
LIGHTING This piece can be performed with or without any special lighting. Nevertheless, a theatrical setting is ideal for this piece, rather than a standard concert situation where both onstage and offstage share the same amount of light. If special theatre lighting is used it should not spread too wide. After 10'30", the lighting should fade gradually to nothing.
