About the work : In November, 2010 Dr. David Skinner, conductor of the Chapel choir at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University, asked me to compose a setting of the Oculi Omnium. This is the ‘Sidney Grace’, recited at High Table and other campus ceremonies and, as I was serving a three-month term as a Visiting Fellow at Sidney, I was honoured to accept the challenge. The final ‘Amen’ is a direct quotation from my choral work i thank You God for most this amazing day, and the entire piece is based on those blossoming cluster chords. E. E. Cummings’ poem ends with the line, ‘now the eyes of my eyes are opened’– I felt that these words matched perfectly the sense of wonder contained within the Latin text.

Y E L About the composer : N C Born in 1970, Eric Whitacre has become one of the leading voices in contemporary choral N O composition. His concert works are regularly performed throughout the world. A E M R Text O OR CeorumFin tempore opportuno. Oculi omnium ad te spectant, Domine; tu das eis escam S Aperis tu manum tuam, et imples omne animal benedictioneR tua.
