Shakespeare Choral Collection SATB NOV164681
THE NOVELLO SHAKESPEARE CHORAL COLLECTION PROVIDES A GENEROUS AND ECLECTIC SELECTION OF PIECES FOR CHOIRS OF ALL TYPES AND ABILITIES. The collection can work as a concert programme in itself, and offers an enticing range of works, from Thomas Arne’s hearty ‘Blow, blow, thou winter wind’ and Henry Leslie’s artless nineteenth-century setting of ‘How sweet the moonlight sleeps’, to delightful works by 20th century composers such as E.J. Moeran and Lennox Berkeley, and accessible contemporary pieces including Gary Carpenter’s atmospheric ‘Lo, here, the gentle lark’, and John Tavener’s mystical settings of ‘Fear no more’, and ‘Look in thy glass’. In addition, several works have been commissioned especially for the collection, including John Joubert’s magical ‘Be not afeard’, Richard Sisson’s mischievous ‘Light Thickens’, Paweł Łukaszewski’s beautiful ‘Weary with toil, I haste me to my bed’. Several pieces appear in print here for the first time, including Kevin Olson’s jazzinspired ‘A Summer Sonnet’, Bernard Hughes’ simple setting of ‘If we shadows have offended’, and John Gardner’s witty ‘Four Rounds to Shakespeare Texts’. Truly music to beguile and charm audiences and choirs alike – if music be the food of love, sing on!

DAVID WORDSWORTH worked as a music teacher and in music publishing before devoting his time to choral music. He has conducted and given workshops in many parts of Europe, as well as in Cuba and the Philippines, and has held residencies at over a dozen US universities. David has been Music Director of the Addison Singers since 1995, leading their regular London concert season as well as performances in France, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Scotland, Spain, the USA and Austria. The Novello Book of Hymns SATB NOV295878
THE NOVELLO BOOK OF HYMNS IS A COLLECTION OF 50 FAVOURITE HYMNS, INSPIRINGLY AND ENGAGINGLY WRITTEN FOR SATB CHOIRS. All the arrangements are designed to be singable by congregations without music, so can be used in any church or school service.
DAVID HILL is a Choral Advisor to Novello. He is Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers, Musical Director of The Bach Choir, Music Director of Southern Sinfonia and Music Director of Leeds Philharmonic Society. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Southampton in 2002 in recognition of his Services to Music. In 2013, he was appointed Principal Conductor of Yale Schola Cantorum and Professor (Adjunct) of Choral Conducting for a threeyear term in the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and Yale School of Music. Previous posts have included Music Director and Organist of Winchester Cathedral (19872002), Music Director of the Waynflete Singers (19872002) and Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral. He is in great demand for choral training workshops worldwide and his handbook on the subject – Giving Voice – was published in 1995.
MS8103 New Titles Choral 32pp Cat v9.indd 2
As well as providing uplifting versions of hymns, the arrangements also work well as easy anthems, enabling more modest church and school choirs to learn an often striking and dramatic piece of music quickly and easily. The hymns have been arranged by a range of well-loved composers and arrangers, including Richard Lloyd, John Bertalot, David Hill, Stephen Jackson, Philip Moore, Christopher Robinson, and many others. Forty of these are published for the first time.
THE 50 HYMNS FEATURED INCLUDE: All hail the power of Jesu’s name (arr. Stephen Jackson) All my hope on God is founded (arr. Meirion Wynn Jones) Alleluia, sing to Jesus (arr. Richard Lloyd) Be still for the presence of the Lord (arr. Stephen Jackson) Be thou my vision (arr. Philip Moore) Christ is made the sure foundation (arr. ADVENT CALENDAR
THE WHISPERING GALLERY
His appointment in 2004 as Master of the Queen’s Music is a tribute to the revolutionary influence he has had on the British contemporary music scene and the public’s perception of it. From his radical works of the 1960s, he developed a more conventional, but no less startlingly original, idiom often drawing on the music and landscape of the Orkney Islands where he lived from 1971 until his death in 2016.

Thy kingdom come, O God
NICO MUHLY CALLS CHORAL MUSIC HIS FIRST LOVE, STATING, “I STILL RETURN TO THE EMOTIONAL LANDSCAPES OF BYRD, TALLIS, GIBBONS, HOWELLS AND BRITTEN AS A SORT OF HOME BASE FOR ALL OF THE MUSIC I WRITE.” That love has led him to create a rich and varied catalogue, including secular and sacred music performed and recorded by choral ensembles such as the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Choir of St Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, New York, Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Cantus, and the Choirs of Clare and St John’s Colleges, Cambridge, among others. From large ensemble works (Like as the hart, Expecting the Main Things from You) to chamber works (How Soon?, A New Song, My Days), Muhly’s passion for choral music comes through in his lush, complex works that are in demand by amateur and professional ensembles throughout the world.

JOHN JOUBERT WAS BORN IN CAPE TOWN IN 1927. AGED 19, HE WON A SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF MUSIC IN LONDON AND HAS LIVED AND WORKED IN ENGLAND EVER SINCE. Joubert’s long composing career encompasses all genres from symphonic, operatic and chamber works to ever-popular choral miniatures, Torches! and There is no rose of such virtue. The two symphonies, three string quartets, Oboe Concerto and Cello Concerto are recent additions to a growing catalogue of recordings from across his work list. Commissions of the last few years include An English Requiem for the 2010 Three Choirs Festival and Concerto for Cello and Chamber Orchestra for Raphael Wallfisch as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Joubert was the featured composer at the new music wells 73-13 festival in June 2013 which included a new mass setting and anthem for the choir of Wells Cathedral. His new St Mark Passion received its first performance at Wells on March 20th 2016 – his 89th birthday.

JAMES WHITBOURN IS AN INTERNATIONALLYRENOWNED COMPOSER RECOGNISED BY THE OBSERVER AS “A TRULY ORIGINAL COMMUNICATOR IN MODERN BRITISH CHORAL MUSIC. His compositional output is admired for its direct connection with performers and audiences worldwide and for its ability to “expand the experience of classical music beyond the edges of the traditional map of classical styles (Tom Manoff, NPR). His largest composition is the concert-length choral work Annelies, which sets words from The Diary of Anne Frank. Other notable works include Luminosity, written for the Westminster Choir College and the ArcheDream dance ensemble, Son of God Mass for saxophone, choir and organ and The Seven Heavens for choir and orchestra - a portrayal of the life of C. S. Lewis in the imagery of the medieval planets.

Sing Out! Book 6 – A Cappella SATB NOV165616
VOCAL COACH AND CHORAL DIRECTOR MARK DE-LISSER, WHO HAS EDITED AND ARRANGED THE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED SING OUT! SERIES, HERE TURNS HIS ATTENTION TO THE A CAPPELLA REPERTOIRE, WITH FIVE UPLIFTING SONGS FOR SATB CHOIR IN THIS SIXTH POP REPERTOIRE BOOK IN THE SERIES. As before, these songs have each been selected for their positive lyrics and heart-warming feel, making them ideal to teach to adults and children. With an enticing selection of pop songs, including Sigma’s Higher, Jess Glynne’s Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself, Ronnie Laws’ Always There, Coldplay’s Paradise and James Bay’s Hold Back the River, this compilation has something for everyone. Arranged for the first time for SATB choir, this book includes a download card with access to full demonstrations and individual rehearsal tracks of each vocal line recorded by members of ACM Gospel Choir. The scores feature keyboard reductions for ease of learning. Helpful hints for performing the pieces and an introduction to beat-boxing are also included in this book, giving you everything you need to learn these well-loved songs.
