Explanations:
Mute the strings with the left hand and make sure you only hear noise and not pitches. The four lines of the stave below the normal stave represents the strings: from top to bottom: strings I-IV.
Approximative indication of where the string has to be muted.

High bow pressure, scratching sound.
Gradual change from normal to high bow pressure, and vice versa.
