All buildings have life, though solid, there is plenty of humanities inside.
- Ieoh Ming Pei
The projects in this portfolio are selected from 2010 to 2018. During these years, I have done many design works in Beijing, which is the oldest and most dramatic city in China. The peculiar city is full of contradictions, such as the contradiction between modern construction and the old city, new urban life and protection of traditional culture, urban development and natural environment, the new need of work and old factory building. It is these complex contradictions that make me pay more attention to the relationship between architecture and nature, history, human behavior, rather than only focusing on the architectural form itself.

Mission & Vision
Nowadays, we found that children's education is not only reading in the classroom, but also feeling the world and spending a happy childhood. So I tried to create a kindergarten far away from noisy city and boring schoolwork in a jungle, and bring nature into children's lives.

Design Date: 2012.2 / Sophomore Year Project Type: Acedemic Studio Design / Individual Work Location: Beijing Site Area: 29800 sq.m. Building Area: 2160 sq.m. Building Height: 5.4 m
Background
In China, there exist a easy and violent way to revolute the traditional city. That is demolishing and rebuilding. To contrast with the cold way, we should find out a gentle way to treat the city. Therefore, patching the city turn out to become our idea to solve this problem we should be faced nowadays.

The Ferrymen recalled: People look at each other on river sides and meet each other on bridge . The river and buildings seem to be "breaking" , rather it should be seen as a special valuable relation.
Tea drinkers recalled: Tea is a Chinese traditional culture , it has a unpretentious temperament . When we drink tea with friends , we feel relaxed and happy; When we drink tea alone , we feel peace and quiet. We need a teahouse which has beautiful scenery to continue our life habit and our tea culture.
The bird keepers recalled: Keeping pet birds is a "Old Beijing History". It is not only a habit , but also a lifestyle that we prefer a slower pace of life. We want a house that can birds live there , and we can take part in .
The old natives recalled: "Food is the paramount necessity of the people". Snack is a good memory for us , we can eat delicious food and talk with neighbors at the same time. We need a space to continue this life.
I recalled: When I was a boy , I frequently climbed to the roof . The tile roof looked like fluctuant hill . And I can meet cat here . What a lovely cat . Cat: Miaow Miaow

1978 2018 China embarked on the road to reform and opening up in 1978. A mass of heavy industries were replaced by tertiary industries. Many factories have been abandoned in this process.
Restore the original site texture, which belong to our design scope. Adjust the road in the park according to the current railway conditions.
There is a lot of "Enterprise Zones" which take the place of old factories in recent decades. Most of them are high-efficiency, but some equally important elements are often overlooked, such as "historical impression", "natural scene" and "Architectural differentiation".

Street View
Public courtyard
Because of limitation of residual steel structure, the two buildings are very close apart. We create a inner courtyard to provide sunlight and activity space. We also protect trees when we do construction.
We fill the space between the building and the road with plants, and use glass curtain walls to connect natural scene and interior space. At the same time, we have improved the street landscape.
This is a courtyard enclosed by three buildings. It provides a place for white-collar workers around to rest and chat. There are many similar Spaces in the project, but some are smaller.

Private Garden
Workroom
It is a spacious space which is difficult to find in the project. We added wooden gratings to the abandoned steel frame and used the demolition stone to create a feature wall.
The space only belongs to office in the building. It is more private than public courtyard. And it will be rebuilt by owners. Every garden is different and dramatic.
This three-story building is a concentrated work area, many young entrepreneurs can start here. We create a free open space for them.
