Experienced writer of Scottish and Federal Policies on a wide range of topics including plastic bag tax, hospital nutrition, prevention of abuse of older people support for carers and the abolition of detention for child asylum seekers. Main areas of interest are health, social care, older people, disability, asylum and immigration, the environment and the UK’s continued membership of the European Union. The Scottish Liberal Democrats have much to offer Scotland. Our message needs to be seen & heard. Grassroots campaigners have an important role to play in delivering it to every Scottish community. A vibrant Scottish Policy Committee is needed to develop our key policies.

CAROLE FORD Policy Committee I am a committed activist for the Lib Dems and support the party in any way I can. I stood as a candidate in both the 2016 Scottish parliamentary and the 2017 council elections. I am a local party committee member and routinely leaflet, canvass, represent the party on hustings, run street stalls, write leaflets and fund raise. I am a former secondary head teacher and former president of School Leaders Scotland. As a head teacher I worked hard to foster a liberal ethos. I continue to teach mathematics two days a week, just for fun, and I work with the Law Society of Scotland. I have worked with young people, teachers and parents in some of the most deprived communities in and around Glasgow. If elected I would push for policies and strategies which might resonate more with the urban areas of Scotland. I think the party needs to widen its appeal to residents in the central belt. I have the time, enthusiasm and experience to contribute positively to the work of the committee and promote the Lib Dem cause in Scotland.

John Grafton Policy committee candidate. John Colin Grafton. Born 1957. Brought up in N Wales and Scotish Borders. Started with The Samaritans in Liverpool in 1975 + Teacher Training. 1978 training in General nursing. Qualified as RMN in 1985. Training in Psychodrama in 1985. Psychotherapy training finished in 1992. Worked / campaigned with Gordon Oakes MP 1976 – Widnes [Education minister]. As a Psychotherapist I have worked with victims of the ‘North Wales’ child abuse investigations and court process, Exservice personal dealing with issues which, even today, remain under the official secrets act. With CEO’s of third sector companies, schools and teachers, christian missionaries... My expertise is in Health, with a bias to Mental Health… my focus is on People – Individuals and groups [society]. I believe in individual’s, in our ability to ‘grow’ and to change. We are not equal persay, but different; each able to contribute equally but in differing ways and with different needs. This has been highlighted by my diagnosis as Autistic 2 years ago.. 60 years life experience; over 40 years of ‘professional’ Listening. I will Listen. I will gather information and opinion and share that. I will engage my passion and enthusiasm to enable results. I will enjoy working as a team ‘component’.. I will support individuals to have their voice heard I will attempt to hold all the principles – need for alternative, democracy, - of “the people” being heard and considered; liberal and defined; and remind others as needed. Thank You..

Ewan McRobert (Central Scotland) for Policy Committee In a sea of anger, fear and isolationism the liberal values of openness, tolerance and internationalism are in short supply. There has never been a time our country has needed the Liberal Democrats more! In the last 2 years I’ve knocked doors and delivered leaflets for candidates in target seats, stood as a candidate myself in both a general election and local election, attended hustings and become an executive member of my local party. I’ve worked hard to help spread the Liberal Democrat message, now I want to help shape it. The Limehouse Declaration called for radical change, a competitive economy with a fair distribution of rewards and most importantly an outward looking rather than xenophobic isolationist Britain. I feel it’s as relevant today as ever and should shape our current policies.

Qualities I'd Bring Studiousness with an eye for detail. Before the Autumn Conference, I read every paper mentioned in the NHS motion as I believe in making informed, evidence-based decisions I’m a computer programmer, which requires creative thinking, problem-solving and anticipating potential pitfalls. I’d bring this critical thinking to policy. An understanding of the technology trends that increasingly shape our world If you have any questions please feel free to email me at ewanmcrobert@gmail.com

“MAKE SCOTLAND A FAIRER PLACE TO LIVE

Vote Andrew Muir for Policy Committee I am 59 years old, a pensions actuary, a former Scottish Chess Champion and have stood as an independent in the general election in Dumbarton. As a human rights campaigner in mental health I founded Psychiatric Rights Scotland and I am a board member of VOX, the mental health charity. The Scottish legal system is very unfair and needs modernised. As it currently stands there is no equality of arms when an individual challenges the state. The NHS has long waiting lists and centralising of services and we need democratically elected health boards to counteract this. We need reform of the long-term care system to have a cap on costs and so that no-one has to sell their home to pay for these costs. For democracy in local councils there should be a limit on block votes so that individual councillors have more say. Results of public consultations must have more legal backing and cannot therefore easily be dismissed by authorities.

Elect FAYZAN REHMAN For the Policy Committee Our conference debates are a testament to members’ thoughtful contributions. Let’s build on conference motions by ensuring our policies are: ● Distinctive as being from the Lib Dems - Need to avoid appearing “me-too” like other parties. ● Articulated to resonate with voters - Ensure voters can grasp what we stand for. ● A call to action for voters to engage with us. Distinctive policies and clarity of presentation, enables a platform for us to be “Winning Again”. Through my career, I’ve facilitated my public and private clients to understand their current difficulties, and designed solutions that will transform their services. I hope to leverage these skills within the Policy Committee. Contact me I welcome advice and insights. Austin Reid Policy Committee

I have experience in listening to others’ views, in the analysis of complex situations, in the development of organisational and project strategy, in constructing consensus, and in the presentation of policy proposals supported by well-formulated arguments in clear, precise and understandable language. This is based on many years as staff member/consultant in developing organisational structures in higher education in the UK and developing countries. I have a long Liberal tradition, joining the Liberal Party 40 years ago, now secretary of the Central Scotland LibDems, and recently as candidate for Falkirk at Westminster I am engaged with human rights locally (with refugees), internationally as international observer for elections in Turkey
