Editor in Chief Wendy H. Jones interviews bestselling fiction and non-fiction author Kelly Oliver. Here they discuss Kelly’s scholarly non-fiction and other works.
Kelly, thank you for joining us here at Writers’ Narrative to talk about writing Scholarly NonFiction. I’m excited to hear your answers as, having come from a background in academia myself, I think it is a topic which is often glossed over when discussing genres. Yet it is a vital part of the literary ecosystem. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

• Set your keywords and ensure your editor is aware.
• Think about how you interact with the reader. Using ‘we’ is more inclusive whereas ‘you’ can feel didactic.
• Read your work aloud from back to front. Anything that means you’re not reading from beginning to end all the time. This helps you spot tweaks or typos.
