The butterfly that inspired the Mariposa logo.

The Miracle of Mariposa Dear Patrons and Friends, To have been given an opportunity to create a restaurant on such sacred land is so rare that quite truthfully, it’s hard to put into mere words the gratitude I have. I realize fully that this process has been divinely guided and is a gift from both heaven and earth, a privilege in every way. My pledge to all of you that made this possible, my angel Justin, and the creator of this beautiful Sedona land, is to honor it and never take for granted what this stewardship truly means. Hence, the name “Mariposa” which means “Butterfly” in Spanish, also, so apropos; as the elusive creature represents all the elements of Mother Nature’s perfection, inner wisdom, freedom of choice and personal transformation. A symbol of hope for every one of us to behold.

Blessings, Lisa Dahl

Momentos de Mariposa Sharing with you our treasured guests, the manifestation of Mariposa was a collaboration with very talented artisans. The execution of my vision was monumental and became a journey somewhere between heaven and earth. As an Italian chef with Italian restaurants, I longed for a new culinary expression in my life. During our travels to Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, and using the power of photography and video, Scott Yates captured the essence of my culinary vision for our journey. The heart of the Latin flavors that I experienced was simply a natural fit to bring back to Sedona. Tantamount to the beauty of the architectural design is the magical synergy…aka ‘the dance’ that took place working with the artists that I truly believe were guided by forces from beyond. Their innate talents with no holds barred, all the more aligned in the celebration of the divine beauty of Mother Earth. I am so blessed to share a glimpse of the sacred geometry that came together when all the elements of man and nature aligned. Zee Haag, who created the magnanimous door and mineral art placed strategically within the restaurant. Gerardo Leyva, who implements Zee’s creative vision. Sean Cannon, a light worker through his medium, paint on canvas. He, a Zen Buddhist who got my attention through persistence, to do a caricature of me. I resisted but when I realized that mother and son could be memorialized for our many lifetimes together…the rest was history. Holly Stedman, stained glass artist extraordinaire and whose local Sedona company is aptly named “Splendor in the Glass”. Mike and Kathie Stevenson whose unconditional love and gift memorialized my son Justin’s memory was laid into place two days before opening and will be viewed by countless thousands for years to come. And Scott Yates, who I simply could not imagine a Mariposa without his soulful diligence and devotion to capturing every aspect of the project from beginning to end… but as we know there is no end in sight. All these forces coalesced to create this book ‘Momentos de Mariposa’ in hopes of keeping the memories close to your heart and also a gentle reminder…every day is a blessing to behold. Con Amor, Lisa Dahl Chef ~ Owner
