The Glad Foundation As a social enterprise, the Glad Cafe has to have a social purpose – something to plough profits into that will be of benefit to the community. For this reason we decided to set up the Glad Foundation.

The Glad Foundation has been set up to provide affordable music lessons for local young people. This may in time develop into affordable arts provision to people of all ages, but currently we will limit our aims to what we can manage! The Glad Foundation has been set up by the Glad Cafe, which as a social enterprise is not for profit. In time, when start up loans have been repaid, we will put profits into the Foundation. Our affordable music lessons may take the form of group workshops, in-school and afterschool workshops, individual or small group tuition.

Some of these will be targeted and may be provided free, others may involve a small charge, and others may be widely advertised and require a reasonable payment. The Glad Foundation will also operate through grants and donations of expertise and money. With money raised we will undertake to make contacts and arrangements with individuals, schools and organisations to facilitate programmes of musical learning taking place. We will always aim to ensure that our music provision is of a high standard, and that we are supportive of our tutors, both paid and voluntary. All tutors will be CRBS checked, and music credentials will be scrutinised.

How we will proceed Currently the repayment of start up loans is a priority for the Glad Cafe. But this does not mean that we cannot get the work of the Glad Foundation underway!

We are doing this through: • Grants – Creative Scotland have provided us with the funds to run a year long after school song and drumming project with secondary school pupils. • Donations – our Glad Community Choir have raised funds which have enabled a series of music workshops to take place in a local primary school. • Volunteer tutors – generous music teachers are willing to give time to provide free one-to-one and small group lessons.
