NASA HEADQUARTERS Described as a “loose sock” inside of a stone armor, the project aims to create a novel relationship between landscape and building by wrapping the building in stone bands covered on the inside with lush greenery. The landscape is thus primarily experienced from the interior of the building, yet not in the typical manner of a “framed view”. Additionally, the section of the building reveals that the highlightof the NASA exhibition spaces, the Destiny module of the International Space Station, has been embedded within a series of intimate galleries lit from above. Mark Gage, critic

CO-HABITATION Two living units are carved out of a compact 14’X14’X14’ site to create a social experiment between two inhabitants. The upper dwelling, a delicate wooden structure, is priveleged with all of the available access to sunlight, while the lower dwelling, a concrete fin wall structure, is designed as a resonator, alerting the lower inhabitant of the upper inhabitant’s daily activities through the specially designed resonant floor of the upper chamber. This exchange between the dwellers creates a unique relationship where the lower dweller, despite minimal natural light, is made aware of the phases of the day by the sounds of the movements of the upper inhabitant. DANCE MACHINE The site for this new dance rehearsal and performance center is located at the base of the Queensboro Bridge in Manhattan, at a busy intersection of cars, pedestrians and even a gondola. The project’s tower-like form creates several interesting sectional relationships: (1) those on the lawn can observe rehearsals from an appropriate distance (2) the performance hall will act as a beacon to those on the Queensboro bridge, raising awareness of the dance center’s activities and (3) the performance-goers are provided with excellent views to Brooklyn and the heart of Manhattan from the elevated lobby space. Joyce Hsiang, critic

BUILDING PROJECT Working as a small team, we designed a home for two families in a struggling neighborhood in New Haven, CT as part of the Yale Vlock building Project. Our proposal was based around the idea of an organizing utility axis which housed most of the storage and circulation, and also divided the house into an owner unit and a tenant unit, which could provide supplemental income for the owner. The design also makes sure to give the owner access to the premium outdoor spaces of the lot, while still providing a quality tenant unit. The double gable massing of the house, a reference to the neighborhood’s fabric, is questioned by the shifting axis on the the second floor, which gives spaces to both tenant and owner in each “mass”.
