NC4K

Nellie’s Champions for Kids - provides support to families fighting pediatric cancer who live in, or travel to Ohio for their treatment. The NC4K community serves families in three primary ways: financial support for basic needs like utilities and groceries; emotional support such as tickets to special experiences; and events for play to make lasting memories. NC4K programs and events bring families together who are on a similar, albeit unimaginable journey, allowing them to build a community of compassion and support. We rely on and welcome many community partners to help bring joy and hope to childhood cancer families within our network.

Since 2011, Handshake America has been identifying high school student-athletes with grit and connecting them with local professionals as their “Coach” for a year-long program that teaches the true meaning of success and how they can achieve it with Perseverance, Passion, Positivity, People, and Presence - which includes giving a good handshake! What’s in it for the student-athletes? Those selected get to take part in a one-year program with student-athletes (>400 and counting) from other area high schools, learning from their Coaches and team sessions. They also receive a significant college scholarship. What’s in it for the Handshake Coaches? Without requiring a lot of time, they get to meaningfully and directly ‘give back’ to students who want to be coached. They also build valuable relationships with other like-minded Handshake Coaches.

Free To Smile Foundation

The Free to Smile Foundation provides quality surgical and dental care to children suffering from cleft lip and palate deformities. Founded in 2008, this volunteer led, Columbus based non-profit is comprised of surgeons, dentists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and others travel to countries like Guatemala, Africa, Cambodia, and the Philippines every year. Team members donate their time and cover their own travel costs. With most we see living well below the poverty line, this unique approach allows us to offer this life changing surgery free of charge. Since 2008 the Free to Smile Foundation has completed over 60 missions, performing over 1,500 surgeries, serving over 3,500 dental patients and developed an educational component that involves training local surgeons so they can better serve their communities.

The Mirth Project

The mission of The Mirth Project (TMP) is to inspire and support low-income teens to go after their goals and dreams. They do this by supplying the equipment, lessons and experiences they need to achieve them.

During the holidays TMP matches the Christmas wish lists of the same group of teens with generous donors making the holiday wishes of over 1,000 teens come true since it was founded in 2017. TMP’s newest initiative is working to improve the lives of the former foster young adults who live at Scholar House 3. TMP partners with local businesses to fill the building’s community kitchen pantry, stocks the library with new books and brings in life skill programming for the residents.
