Welcome to the very first edition of the Jamboree2008 newsletter.

The Staff of Jamboree 2008 would like to give a big warm welcome to all our readers. Those of you who check out the website may have noticed the “Name the Jamboree Newsletter” feature—and as you can see we have no name for this edition.

We are opening up the naming of the Newsletter to all our readers and we will pick the name from all the entries for our next issue. This news‐ letter is for all attending and even for those who won’t be attending…

Countdown to the opening ceremony... Welcome all to our first edition of our Jamboree 2008 newsletter. I hope this will help spread the word and let you know of the many things, far too numerous to put in writing, about the goings on within the production of the Jamboree. Since the epic journey began last January, many teams have been formed to head up the various tasks that are needed to host and run a Jamboree of this scale. The skills and energy of so many are a credit to the human race and I hope that they all feel appreciated and vital. Jamboree 2008 is a bit like a 10,000 piece Jig Saw, creating a memorable picture that when dis‐ played will raise the hairs on the back of your neck. We will not, however, be doing things by half; our jig saw is three dimensional with no one piece the same as the other and every piece potentially double sided! The challenge is welcomed and the spirit out there about the Jamboree is palpable. I would welcome any comments, views, thoughts and of course your help in giving our young members and Leaders alike, a Scouting experience that will never be forgotten. Come hell or high water, Jamboree 2008 will not go unnoticed and neither will all your efforts! Yours in Scouting, Christy McCann Camp Chief ‘Its going to be great’ This is the logo that will be used on a wide range of souvenir items to be made available from the OAS/Scout Shop starting in the New Year. A version of the Jamboree logo for the Jamboree neckerchief and par‐ ticipant badges will be launched in January on the website.

As we issue this newsletter the Sub Camp Chief For the Venture Sub Camp is preparing, along with his Venture Unit for a trip of a lifetime to the Arctic Circle. George and his Venture Scouts along with a group from New Zealand are heading to Helsinki, Finland on the 27th December. On the 28th they go North to Vasatokka – a youth centre near Inari 300 Km north of the Arctic Circle. If George can lead an expedi‐ tion of this magnitude then organizing an adventurous programme for the Venture Sub Camp would be a walk in the park. George informs us that Ven‐ tures have expressed an interest in the Jamboree from places like the USA, Canada and the UK. The colour of the Sub Camp Kneckerchief is going to be Purple. We will have more from the Venture Sub Camp Team on pro‐ gramme for the next issue.
