Emory University Symphony Orchestra and University Chorus

This concert features the Mozart Requiem performed by the Emory University Symphony Orchestra (EUSO) and the University Chorus. The EUSO will also present a newly commissioned orchestral work as part of the Composer Commission Project: EUSO @ 100. This project is a collaboration among the Schwartz-Artist-in-Residence program, EUSO, and Emory composition faculty. In an effort to present emerging composers from underrepresented backgrounds, each year for the next three years, a BIPOC femaleidentifying composer will be selected from an international call to compose new music for the EUSO to premiere, lead student workshops, participate in panel discussions, and work within the Emory music community for real-time revision of their works. Rounding out the evening’s program is Mahler’s Totenfeier. Brittany Green is the first composer selected as part of the Composer Commission Project. Green is a North Carolina-based composer, creator, and educator. Described as “cinematic in the best sense” and “searing” (Chicago Classical Review), Green’s music works to facilitate collaborative, intimate musical spaces that ignite visceral responses.
