Performer Biographies Caroline Sikuta, 22, is a senior at Emory double majoring in business and music performance. She began studying violin at age five with her father, Anton Sikuta, in Naples, Florida, and currently studies with Jay Christy, assistant principal second violinist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. While still in high school, Sikuta received the Hammes Award as first-place winner of the Naples Music Club Competition and was the overall prizewinner of the 2018 Southwest Florida Symphony Jillian Prescott Music Competition. In May 2018, she performed as a soloist with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra as winner of the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. At Emory, Sikuta won second place in the fall 2018 Emory University Concerto and Aria Competition. In January 2020, she performed as a soloist with the Southwest Florida Symphony. For the past two years, Sikuta has served as concertmaster of the Emory University Symphony Orchestra. She participated in the Austrian Master Classes with David Frühwirth at the Castle Zell an der Pram, Austria, and has performed in further master classes with violinists Midori, Jennifer Koh, Baiba Skride, and Carolyn Huebl; Vienna Philharmonic violinists Josef Hell and Christoph Koncz; and the Miro String Quartet. During her time at Emory, Sikuta has worked as a teaching assistant in the business school, served as a research team lead for the Emory Impact Investing Group, and interned at several companies developing her passion for marketing and business. After graduation, Sikuta will be joining Deloitte in Atlanta as a management consultant. She would like to express her thanks to her parents, teachers, and friends for their continuous love and support. Originally from Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Magdalena Shumanova began piano studies at age four. She attended Dobrin Petkov National School of Music and Dance Art from first through twelfth grade. Upon graduating with honors, she continued her studies at Florida State University, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in piano performance. Shumanova recently graduated with a master of music degree in collaborative piano from San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has accompanied world-renowned brass soloists and brass members at the Summer Brass Institute for four years and at the International Euphonium Institute for twelve years.
