Scranton Women's Lacrosse Scranton Men's Lacrosse Jim Rogalski made quite a splash in his first season as head coach of The University of Scranton men’s lacrosse program, leading the Royals to their first-ever Landmark Conference title and to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in the program’s 25-year history. And to think that Scranton’s storybook season was only minutes away from not happening. The Royals found themselves trailing defending Landmark champion Goucher College by three goals with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth period in a must-win situation on Saturday, April 23, at Fitzpatrick Field. Nevertheless, Scranton fought back and pulled out a 9-8 victory in overtime, then defeated Catholic University twice within a five-day span before setting up another meeting with Goucher, this time in the Landmark Conference championship game. The Royals avoided the dramatics of the first meeting by building up an 11-5 lead midway through the fourth period en route to a 12-8 victory. And even though Scranton’s season came to an end days later with an 8-3 loss to 12th-ranked Gettysburg in the NCAA tournament, the Royals more than held their own, forging a tie with the heavily favored Bullets early in the third period. Another highlight was the selection of five Royals as allconference performers, including three first-team picks. It was the most representatives from Scranton on an allconference team since 1995. A native of Arnold, Maryland, Rogalski has coached extensively on the NCAA Division I and III level since his graduation from St. Mary's College of Maryland in 1997. For the past six seasons, he has been on the coaching staff at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, beginning his career there as head assistant lacrosse coach in 2004 before being promoted to associate head coach in 2007. He has also served as an assistant coach at Drexel University, Washington & Lee University, Goucher College, Western New England College, and St. Mary's.

administrative duties, including game and practice planning, recruiting, monitoring NCAA compliance, and organizing clinics for local youth players and youth coaches. In his role as associate head coach over the past three years, he oversaw the Scarlet Knights's recruiting efforts, which resulted in nationally-ranked recruiting classes in 2007 and 2008 by Inside Lacrosse magazine and commitments from five high school all-Americans for this season and next year's freshman class. On the field, Rutgers also pulled off a major upset in the inaugural season of the Big East Conference in 2010, defeating NCAA runner-up Notre Dame, 10-8, on March 27 in South Bend, Indiana. During his undergraduate days at St. Mary's, he was a four-year letterman on the men's lacrosse team. A threeyear starter, Rogalski earned all-Capital Athletic Conference honors twice (1st team, 1996; 2nd team, 1995). He also coached there for two seasons as an assistant upon graduation before moving on to Western New England College and Goucher College in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Rogalski is the owner of Ski Lax, Inc., and co-owner of Coast to Coast Lacrosse Camp, Inc. Jim and his wife, Susan, reside in Clarks Summit with their two daughter, Ella and Lia. Rogalski began a three-year tenure at Drexel in 2001, where he served as defensive and recruiting coordinator and whose first season was highlighted by nine wins, the fourth-most in the program's history at the time. He also coached three players who earned all-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors and another who was named the conference's rookie of the year in 2002. Assistant Coach Ed Williams Ed Williams, a native of Florham Park, New Jersey, begins his second season as an assistant coach. A former standout player at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice, he was a four-year starter at midfield for the Warriors, earning first-team all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) honors in 2009 and second team in 2010, and served as tri-captain his senior year. He finished his career with 97 goals and 40 assists for 137 total points. He played a key role on a Lycoming team that posted a 23-5 record over the past three seasons under head coach Brian Anken, including a 9-1 mark and tie for first place in the MAC in 2009. Upon graduation from Lycoming, Williams served as a volunteer recruiting coach for the Warriors. During the summers of 2006-2010, he also worked as an assistant director and sports director for the Florham Park Day Camp, managing sport activities and events, organizing camp activities and field trips and providing a fun and safe environment for campers. At Hanover Park High School, Williams was a three-year letterman and team captain of the boys' lacrosse team and played four years of football. His younger brother, Joseph, is a graduate of The University of Scranton and was a member of the Royal wreslting team (2007-2011).

In four seasons, Coleman was a mainstay up front for the Royals, finishing his career with 33 goals and 18 assists for 61 total points in 52 games. His 85 ground balls is currently 24th on Scrantonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s all-time list. He was a member of the 2008 team that won a school-record 12 games under former head coach Kevin Dugan, who is currently director of menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lacrosse operations at the University of Notre Dame. Coleman was also a member of three Landmark Conference tournamentqualifying teams (2008, 2009, 2011). He also excelled in the classroom, landing a spot on the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll three times. Volunteer Assistant Coach Tom Hayes Hayes is a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In 32 seasons at both Drexel and Rutgers, he posted an overall record of 243-162 (.600). His tenure at Rutgers included five NCAA tournament appearances and the Scarlet Knights were ranked in the top 20 from 1975 to 1998. He also coached 57 all-Americans. Hayes has also served as president of the International Lacrosse Federation from 1994 through 2002, vice president from 19741978, secretary-treasurer from 1978-1983, general delegate from 1974-1994, chair of the Marketing Committee from 2001 to the present, and chair of the Development Committee from 2003 to the present.

Scranton Softball Women's Lacrosse Scranton Men's Lacrosse News & Notes In the silver anniversary of the program, in 2011, the Royals struck gold, winning their first-ever Landmark Conference title and advancing to the NCAA Division III championships for the first time in the program's 25-year history. Scranton ended the season with a 9-8 record under first-year head coach Jim Rogalski. Seniors Colin McPoyle and Mike Rufo and juniors Tim Cleary and Taylor Nelson will serve as team captains for the 2012 season. McPoyle and Cleary were mainstays on a defensive unit that held nine opponents under 10 goals last season. In three seasons, McPoyle has appeared in 46 games and has 44 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. Cleary, a 2011 first-team all-Landmark Conference selection, has 54 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers in 30 career games. Nelson and Rufo both earned second-team all-Landmark Conference honors last season to help Scranton to its first Landmark Conference title. Nelson led the Royals in goals (31) and total points (43) while Rufo was second in goals scored (25) and third overall in total points (29). In addition, Rufo enters his final campaign needing 18 goals to move into the top 15 all-time in Scranton history. The Royals will certainly have plenty of hurdles to clear in their attempt to repeat as Landmark Conference champions. Scranton faces a challenging 15game schedule that includes 11 teams that posted winning records last season. Of those 11, eight won at least 10 games—St. John Fisher (12-4), FDU-Florham (11-7), Marywood (11-7), Nazareth (11-7), and Farmingdale State (10-5), along with Landmark Conference rivals Goucher (11-6), Catholic University (116), and Susquehanna (11-6). The other three teams with winning records are Lycoming (9-8), Franklin & Marshall (8-6), and Drew (8-6).

The Roylas are picked to finish second in the Landmark Conference during the 2012 season, according to a preseason poll of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. The defending champion Royals racked up 53 points, eight behind 2010 champion Goucher College, while Catholic University is picked to finish third with 47 points, followed by Susquehanna University (41), Drew University, the Merchant Marine Academy (19), and newlyaffiliated member Washington & Jefferson (14). The conference has enjoyed parity throughout its first four seasons, with a different champion emerging every year. Drew won the inaugural title in 2008, followed by the Merchant Marine Academy in 2009, Goucher in 2010, and Scranton in 2011. Junior attacker Kyle Frank will return to the lineup after a two-year absence. He burst onto the scene in 2008, earning the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year award and second-team all-conference honors after leading the Royals in goals (36) and total points (56). His 56 total points were the most by a Scranton player since Joe Empirio accounted for 82 (44 goals, 38 assists) in 1999. In 2009, Frank had 22 goals and seven assists for 29 total points as the Royals went 9-7 and advanced to the championship game of the Landmark tournament. He enters the upcoming 2012 season 15 total points shy of becoming one of 19 players in Scranton history to record 100 in a career. The Royals are 13-10 in Landmark Conference play since the league starting competing in 2008. Scranton has also qualified for the conference's postseason tournament three times (2008, 2009, 2011). Overall, Scranton is 36-29 (.554) during this span.
