Scene 1 - In the Streets of Verona Narrator:
In a town called Verona there were two families, the Capulets and Montagues , who hated each other more than death.
Lady Mont:
My son Romeo, where are thee? Benvolio have you seen Romeo?
Benvolio:
I but saw your son by the sycamore tree.
(Move off the street to the Palace) Narrator:
Romeo was totally love sick for Rosaline, Lord Capulet’s niece.
Romeo:
Benvolio, my love for Rosaline is endless!
Benvolio:
Not another girl for thee.
(Messenger walks in) Tybalt:
Down with the Montagues (shouted).
Montagues: Down with the Capulets (shouted). Prince:
Narrator:
Stop thee fighting or death will call (rides off on his horse). You Capulet, come with me! Montague - I will see thee later. Tybalt , the nephew to Lord and Lady Capulet wanted to kill Benvolio, but Benvolio did not like fighting.
Messenger: Can thee read? Romeo:
I, if I know the letters and the language (Romeo reads the letter a loud)‌ Rosaline will be there at the ball of the Capulets.
Benvolio:
Go thither!
Messenger: If not a Montague, come crush a cup of wine!
Scene 2 – The Capulet’s Grand Ball Mercutio:
Romeo, why won’t you dance?
Romeo:
My dear Mercutio, my souls are too nimble to dance.
(Romeo spots Juliet, Juliet spots Romeo and they walk towards each other) Romeo:
Nurse:
Your mother craves a word with you sweet Juliet.
Juliet:
Okay (Leaves to see her mother).
Romeo:
(Talking to nurse) Is she a Capulet?
Nurse:
Yes, she’s the daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet of this very house.
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand. You’re so beautiful (Kisses the
(Romeo drops his mask and runs off as Juliet enters looking for her new lover)
hand of Juliet and then on her lips).
Juliet:
What is his name Nurse?
Nurse:
Romeo.
Juliet:
Romeo?
Nurse:
He’s a Montague!
Juliet:
My only love sprung from my only hate!
(Juliet picks up the mask, cries and covers her own face) Juliet:
You kiss by the book!
Scene 3 – The Balcony & Marriage
Romeo: Nurse:
Juliet:
O Romeo, Romeo wherefore art are thou Romeo?
Romeo:
I am here my love and I take thee at thy word. Call me by love and I’ll be new baptis’d.
(Juliet blows a kiss in Romeo’s direction) Nurse:
(Shouted from a distance) Madam?
Juliet:
One moment Nurse.
Romeo:
Send me a message at 9 O’clock.
Juliet:
(blows a kiss) Bye my love!
Farewell my Juliet.
(Runs after Romeo and whispers in his ear) You are to plan a wedding.
Romeo:
A wedding will be planned!
Narrator:
Romeo makes his way to Friar Laurence who agrees to secretly marry the couple of love fools.
Friar L:
Come, come with me and we will make short work and you two will be one.
(Romeo and Juliet kneel before Friar Laurence). Narrator:
Romeo and Juliet were now secretly married.
Scene 4 – Street fight & Banishment
Benvolio:
Thee must leave Verona before the Prince will done thee death!
Narrator:
The next day Romeo is out walking the streets when he sees a fight …
Narrator:
Later on at the church, Romeo meets with Friar Laurence.
Romeo:
Oh stop my friends, stop fighting
Romeo:
Does not Juliet think of me a murderer?
Mercutio:
Tybalt, you rat catcher!
Friar L:
You must be banished from Verona, never to be seen again.
Romeo:
But heaven is where Juliet is.
(separating his friends).
(The sword fight continues)
(Nurse walks in)
Romeo:
Are thou hurt Mercutio?
Mercutio: He has hurt me under your arms, they have made worms meat of me!
Nurse:
Our sir, our sir! Death is the end for us all.
Romeo:
What does she say?
Nurse:
Oh, she says nothing.
Narrator:
Meanwhile, back at the Capulets…
Juliet:
Let day in, let life out!
Romeo:
Tybalt! (Romeo turns around and stabs
Lord C:
Good news! The church will make you a joyful bride.
Tybalt:
You wretched boy!
Juliet:
By St. Peters church, I shall not!
Tybalt by accident).
Scene 5 – The End (The Tomb) Narrator:
Later on, news spread of Romeo’s banishment and Juliet was beside herself. She goes to see Friar Laurence to come up with a plan. They decide that she should take a potion to make her sleep for 48 hours. She drinks the potion and falls to sleep. Romeo hears of the news that Juliet is dead and rides back on a horse. He gets to the tomb where he finds Juliet lying there.
Romeo:
My Juliet (gasps).
Narrator:
Romeo then gets poison as he wants to be dead if Juliet is no longer alive. He drinks the poison. Juliet awakes to find a dead Romeo.
Friar L:
Come away child.
Juliet:
Can you just leave me? Get our families.
Narrator:
Juliet sits down beside Romeo and tries to drink poison from the bottle, but there’s none left.
Juliet:
Noise, noise, I must be brief.
(Juliet takes Romeo’s dagger and kills herself)
