JOB DESCRIPTION Visitor Engagement Representative Part-Time Saturday – Sunday 10am – 6pm; Monday 1-6pm Organization Founded by artists in 1928, SculptureCenter is a not-for-profit arts institution in Long Island City, New York dedicated to experimental and innovative developments in contemporary sculpture. SculptureCenter commissions new work and presents exhibits by emerging and established, national and international artists. Position Summary The Visitor Engagement Representative reports to the Visitor Services and Membership Manager and is responsible for the reception and engagement of visitors, sales transactions, and overseeing the gallery. Key Duties and Responsibilities Visitor services: Greeting and receiving gallery visitors; collecting admission fees; answering questions in person and over the phone about exhibitions, facilities, and location; conducting retail sales (publications, memberships, and merchandise); ensuring the reception desk and bookstore are stocked and have a clean professional appearance; and tracking attendance. The Visitor Engagement Representative is expected to be knowledgeable about the artists and work on view, have a basic understanding of the surrounding Long Island City neighborhood, and further engage visitors and our understanding of them through surveys, conversation, and observation. Gallery management: Monitor visitors and ensure their compliance with museum regulations. Turn exhibitions on and off. Inspect all artwork for damage, wear & tear, lighting problems, etc. and immediately report any problems to the Curatorial Department. Ensure front entrance, courtyard, and bathrooms are clean and in good working order. Report any maintenance issues to the VSM Manager. Qualifications 1. Excellent inter-personal skills, over the phone and in person. 2. Passionate commitment to contemporary art. 3. Strong organizational abilities, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. 4. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Word and Excel. 5. Retail or front-desk experience a plus. Compensation: $13.50 per hour. This is a part-time position with no benefits. Schedule: Saturday and Sunday 10am – 6pm; Monday 1-6pm. It is likely there will be additional hours for SculptureCenter events on occasional weeknights and weekend evenings as well.
