Most packages do not go through customs! We suggest that you do not ship anything to Italy. You can find everything you need in supply shops or at the Scuola. Pharmacies are well supplied and both drugs and supplements are blocked at the customs. If you send a package and it gets blocked, you will need to open a tax position in Italy and you will need to do all paperwork by yourself. If you wish to ship provide you with templates of the forms you must fill.

Temperature is regulated by a thermostat. It must not exceed 20°c.Please do not forget that gas is very expensive in Italy and we will appreciate your awareness. So, we wouldn’t like to see a thermostat at 25°c. with open windows!

KITCHEN & LAUNDRY Kitchens are equipped for cooking. Each person is responsible for cleaning up after him or herself. Laundry facilities are located at the ground floor.

SHUTTERS & WINDOWS When you are leaving the apartment please make sure that your shutters are closed or fixed, so that they won’t bang. There are sudden thunderstorms in Venice, especially in Summer, and the wind may damage the shutters. If you want to leave your windows open to air the rooms, please make sure that the shutters are closed, so that rain won’t make a mess of your room. Guests staying on the 1st floor must close the shutters when leaving the apartment, especially the ones in the bathrooms at the back of the apartment. This will prevent unwanted visits from burglars.

Tap water is excellent

Painting in the apartments is not allowed

If electricity does not come back you must go downstairs and turn up whatever switch you see has gone off in the general fuse box.

GETTING AROUND MOVING ON WATER Waterbus pass (venezia È unica)

The ‘Venezia è Unica’ card (40€) allows you to travel on the vaporetti at a reduced rate. It is available directly from the VELA office (Piazzale Roma). You must show your passport and then you may buy the monthly pass if you plan on riding frequently, or a prepaid plan of 10 tickets.

VAPORETTI

These boats are the big water-buses that travel along the Canal Grande. The #1 makes every stop while the #2 is faster, stopping at the more principle locations. Tickets can be purchased at some stops before you get on board or at tabacchi (newspaper stands). At these places you can also buy one-week tickets. The flat-rate one way fare is 7,50 €. When on the vaporetto, try not to block the passageway where people get on and get off. If you are carrying suitcases put them in the baggage area. To take a Vaporetto across the canal (one stop) there is a reduced fare.

GONDOLE

The cost of a gondola ride is 80€ for 40 minutes for up to six passengers. The price rises after 8pm and you pay around 20 € extra for each additional 25 minutes. It is better to establish the price before your ride and take a boat from one of the official gondola stands.

TRAGHETTI

These boats are large gondolas that carry people across the Canal Grande at various locations. They cost 0,70 € with ‘Venezia è Unica’ card, and 2 without card.

WATER TAXIS

These are the motor boats that speed through the canals (and also erode the foundations of the buildings). Their rates vary but start out around the outrageous fee of 60 €.

ALILAGUNA

This is the ferry from and to the airport. The fee is 15 € without ‘Venezia è unica’ card, and 8€ with the card.
