Santander

moves forward A guide to our new office

TOM DUNDON Chairman and CEO

Santander Associates, The countdown is on and each day we’re getting closer to the big move. I hope you’re as excited as I am about this beautiful new building we’ll soon be calling Santander Consumer USA’s home. While our current headquarters has served us well over the past 12 years, we must think of our future. And the best building for our future, after looking at a lot of different sites, is Thanksgiving Tower in downtown Dallas. Not only is it centrally located in the heart of a thriving metropolis but, as I think you’ll see, it’s an enormous upgrade to our current facilities. Thank you for your patience as we continue to make Santander Consumer USA the best company it can be. Sincerely,

Tom Dundon, Chairman and CEO

A Tower to be Thankful For

L

ocated at 1601 Elm Street, Thanksgiving Tower is a major feature of the famous Dallas skyline. When it was constructed in 1982, Thanksgiving Tower was the second-tallest building in downtown Dallas. Currently, the 50-story building ranks eighth in height. (The top spot is held by the 72-story Bank of America Plaza.) Thanksgiving Tower stands at 646 feet and contains approximately 1.4 million square feet of office space. It was designed by the architectural company HKS, which also designed the Atlantis Paradise Island Hotel, Lone Star Park, American Airlines Center,

Rangers Ballpark and the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. In addition to Santander, other tenants in the high rise include XTO Energy, PetroHunt LLC and the law firm Gardere Wynne Sewell. Thanksgiving Tower is also close to major areas of entertainment, including the American Airlines Center, Dallas World Aquarium, Perot Museum, Dallas Museum of Art, and the newest edition to outdoor fun—Klyde Warren Park. The adjacent ThanksGiving Square, dedicated in

1976, contains waterfalls, green spaces and benches. In other words, it’s a great place to enjoy lunch on a nice day. Speaking of food, there are many excellent restaurants around Thanksgiving Tower. Campisi’s, Pho Colonial and Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse are just a few of the alreadypopular spots Santander associates have found to grab a bite and visit with co-workers. We think you’ll enjoy the new location of Santander’s headquarters and we encourage you to explore the downtown area.

Thanks-Giving Square Chapel sits just outside the main doors of the tower.

Food Network Downtown Dallas has many perks, including a smörgåsbord of dining options.

S

antander associates that have already spent time in Thanksgiving Tower have discovered a major benefit to the new building – food selection. “I love the fact that within a five-minute walk in just about any direction there are a lot of great, and healthy, places to eat,” says one employee. “Not only that, but there’s a huge food court just under the building.” See pages 15–17 for a list of dining options right outside the office building doors.

14

DINING TIP With its interconnected underground tunnel system allowing access to a variety of restaurants and shops, the Dallas Pedestrian Network is a great way to stay inside on rainy days and keep shaded from the heat. It’s easily accessible via the escalator at Thanksgiving Tower.

O

kay, you’re working in downtown Dallas, and you’ve been enjoying the world-class restaurants, entertainment and shopping, but you’re looking for a nice place to get away from the office, and relax outside. Well, you’re in luck. Downtown Dallas has some of the most beautiful, modern parks in the world. In fact, 10 percent of the land area of Dallas is made up of public parks! During the day, if you’re looking for a place to enjoy a walk, sit down and read, or even reflect quietly, there is a

24

park within walking distance of Thanksgiving Tower that you’ll enjoy. This guide only covers a fraction of the amenities and charms of each park, so feel free and take the opportunity to explore them all. Then, come back and tell others about your experiences! Though each park is special, all of the downtown Dallas parks are maintained by city horticulturists and

PARKS & RECREATION maintenance personnel yearround, and they're beautifully lit throughout the night. Friendly and helpful police officers are conspicuous on foot, on bicycle and even on horseback. And depending on your idea of relaxation, you'll be able to choose between many different parks for each activity. Sometimes taking a break from your computer screen is as simple as just taking a walk. You can stroll quickly over to Thanks-Giving Square across Pacific Avenue, or Aston Park down the street to enjoy the trees and green space. Or if you brought your exercise clothes and want to take a little lunchtime jog, you can run up to Klyde Warren Park for a few laps around the

sculptures and fountains. If you prefer to sit and take in the sights, you might enjoy the groves and sprawling courtyards of Dallas City Hall Plaza or the green glass study shelters and lounge chairs along the cascading fountains of Main Street Garden Park. Or if you like to bring your own chair and just want a cozy spot to sit among the trees, you can check out Aston Park, Belo Garden, John Carpenter Park, or Cancer Survivors Plaza. All around downtown, among your favorite places to shop and eat, you’ll find relaxing green spaces that you can enjoy on your lunch hour, or at any hour, between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. So get out there and enjoy yourself! FIRST REACTIONS

Early Arrivals

Did you know many of Santander’s IT associates are already working downtown? What do they think so far? cory merritt “It’s working great for me…better than expected. I admit to being a little skeptical at first because I thought it would add time to my commute and cost me more to travel into downtown. But as it turns out, taking the DART to work saves me money, and stress, on my ride to and from work. Taking the train, I can do even more than I did sitting in my car on my previous commute. I can even still listen to the radio station (The Ticket) I listened to in my car, I just do it on my phone’s app now."

Jeanne Dant “The move has been a great benefit for me. I have free station parking 10 minutes from my home where I pick up the DART. There is a group of us that rides the train to and from work together. Not only has there been no increase in my commute time, but I am also saving money on gas. We’ve already found our favorite spots to eat in the area as well. There are a variety of excellent choices within walking distance, and a huge food court right across the street.” Andrea Chance “I live south of Arlington and have a little one in school, so I don’t have the flexibility to take the train. When we first moved to Thanksgiving Tower, I was concerned about the price of parking. Since the move; the parking has not been a big issue. I found a close $5 garage and all of the benefits of being downtown outweigh the price of parking. James mentioned during our initial move meeting in Drive U that our quality of life would improve after the move to downtown. We were all very reluctant, but I truly believe he was right. I love it!” 30
