Love, Amor, Amour, Amore, Liebe, Tresna by Elaine

Deeter

No matter how you say it or what your primary language is, it all means the same thing: an intense feeling of deep affection.

There are different kinds of love. Love of family, friends, life and country. The love of the community that we live in is an important one for me, besides all of those mentioned above.

Many years ago as a child living in Los Angeles, I developed a love of all things Southwestern. I was attracted to the beauty of the desert and cactus. I can remember traveling east with my parents with the old heavy canvas desert water bag strapped to the hood of the car, just in case the radiator overheated. We, of course, did that part of the trip at night to prevent overheating. I actually have one of those old water bags in my backyard, to remind me of those early years and the desire I had to make it to the desert.

Never did I think I would end up living in Arizona and particularly in Sun City Oro Valley. Finding a place in this community fulfilled my ultimate dream.

I read the following recently: “Whatever else it might be about, love is about connection. It is about how we relate to each other. It is about how we feel about others, how we think about them, how we connect with them and what we do with them. Love is not so much personal as interpersonal.” It’s been said there is no better place to learn the art of loving than in a community.

When I think about our community I think about how we all came together from different places, different backgrounds and different lifestyles. While we might not always agree, you have to admit we all love our community. We have different interests, hobbies, sports and friends, but we all want to be here, because it is the best place for us to live and be happy. We need to come together, make peace and do what is right, not just for ourselves, but for our wonderful community.

Remember, it isn’t how you say LOVE, it is how you show it to others: a kind word, a thank you or even just a smile to brighten someone’s day.

A Future of Possibilities

It was Robert Frost who wrote:

“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim...”

This past month, our community started down a road that will be filled with possibilities. Years ago, our community found out through a survey that our residents wanted more gathering spaces. After years of meetings, planning and renovation, we reopened the Activity Center with more of these areas. From the moment you enter the building and see all the beautiful art in the entry, to the time you sit down in a number of new areas, you will see and feel that our community has embarked on an adventure down a road we haven’t taken before. There is a new Kiva Room along with the new Kiva Patio. Oh, the gatherings and activities that will take place in those two places. And let’s not forget the work that has taken place in the Native American Rooms that will make them more user-friendly and quieter when meetings are taking place in an adjacent room. The Auditorium with its new colors, drapes, flooring, stage, sound system and much more will definitely provide a place for large gatherings. The music, plays, entertainment, dinners and socials will add a refined element to the facility. Then there is the Kachina Lounge area and The Bistro Coffee & Wine Bar where more intimate conversations will abound.

It is all so exciting. I can’t wait to see what is around the next bend in the road. I hope you enjoy living here at Sun City Oro Valley as much as I enjoy working here.
