Pratik Siddhpura & Devang Patel Mukesh Shah Bungalow (Bharuch)

This house is designed for a well known Businessman in Bharuch. It is designed to be modest, simple and spiritual in its expression yet luxurious, and stylish in detailing. Located in the serene precinct of Bharuch, the structure resonates with its context, as an intelligent, innovative and spiritual response to the client's brief. It is a three bedroom house with a family room, a living room along with kitchen, dining, and puja room. While considering the client's aesthetical requirements, the parallel stream challenge was to accommodate so many spaces on the limited plot area given.

stupendous The ground floor comprises of a foyer, a living room, a bedroom and a dining area. While emphasizing on comfortable living, softness was borrowed through selections of base materials, colours and furnishings. All furniture elements were customized for minimal yet elegant look. They were made of wood, veneer, onyx and Italian marble. After considering client's own inclination for spiritual aesthetics, we designed a lotus motif as inlayed mother of pearl in white stone for

the feature wall of his master bedroom. To re-indicate that gesture of beauty, the same lotus motif is also executed on a compound wall but with different technique and material.

Teak flooring and side panels create a warm ambience Bottom Left: The dining area can be seen from the corner of the living room. The white paint, vitrified tiles and extensive use of teak unites the two spaces

Travertine has been used for the wash area (seen behind) Top Right: Colour has been used generously albeit with care in the kids’ bedroom. Meant for a boy and a girl, it features a black-and-white collage on canvas with the children’s photographs Bottom Left: Soft hues have been employed for the parent’s room which is devoid of any striking elements Bottom Right: A sitting-cum-lounge area has been created on the huge terrace by placing a small bar, jhoola and chairs. The glass ceiling with a brass column encasement adds drama to the space

motivated by motifs

The kids' bedroom has joy of colours and lots of childhood memories in a photo-collage form as a prime design element. Sequential unfolding of spaces and clever material use with detailing augments the concept of creating spiritual expression of a site sensitive architecture. The house is more than receptacle for its residents; it goes beyond providing spaces to live and forms 'architecture'- one that reflects the desires & aspirations of the clients and one that truly is in accord with its site and is expressive of its unique existence.

the challenges The challenge faced during this project was that a narrow street route bypassing the plot (52' by 36') where a plane of compound wall has become the feature for exterior elevation of the house which is accentuated with wood-tiled texture. Moreover, facade design was to be balanced by accommodating both parking and a small garden as per client's need.
