Sanjay Newaskar Designs LLP Somalka Houses (Pune)
The house was conceptualised for a renowned industrialist family in Pune. Being in the business of real estate, the client and his family had focused and specific needs. They simply wished the house to be an extension of their unique way of living. There was a lot of time invested in discussing issues like texture of the material, light quality and other minute setting in the house, which have been incorporated in the final product. The design and overall feel of the house offers generous spatial accommodation with a luxurious yet grounded occupation of the acreage. The client did not have any specific requirements except a different and a unique home for them. Also, they wanted the bungalows to be in 3:2 ratio areas wise, Mr. Deepchand Oswal's bungalow bigger than Mr. Ashok Oswal. Being a twin bungalow, they did not want to make any difference in both the bungalows. They required separate bungalows but with one consistent feel. unifying Maintaining the feel of one home, each residence follows the same basic plan with a ratio of 3:2. We didn't want to make any comparison between both the bungalows, so we decide on two form of design - one is smooth lines concept designed in plans (inspired by Ar. Zaha Hadid) as it requires lot of space for this (this bungalow being the bigger one, it was given this concept of smooth lines). And other is angular lines concept designed in plans (inspired by Plasma Studio). This interlocking of shapes had an unexpectedly interesting effect on the design infusing the interiors with their dimensional effect while maintaining harmony of colour and texture.

“The brief demanded a huge parking area as they wanted to accommodate around 14-15 cars.

The parking area was made in the basement. Both the bungalows shared a common terrace, common guest rooms on terrace, Common Gym area on terrace, and entertainment area on terrace. Each bungalow has different home theatres. In a nutshell, the house is the family's own world, and represents their likes from inner and outer design. The location of the house is also on a beautiful street where each house seems to stand on its own little hill like royalty.

the challenges The main challenge was about maintain the similarity in plans and design in both the bungalow at ratio of 3:2. The aim of this project was to create a bright an inviting ambience of the residence to integrate the indoors and outdoors and offer the residents a high level of comfort.
the influences “The smooth and angular designs around the house are infused with the edge of modernity. This thought of infusion was inspired by the client's personality and the family's aspirations. - Sanjay Newaskar
