On 10 Mar 2019, St. Joseph Church, Banpong organized a seminar together with the Catholic Diocese of Ratchaburi to mark the occasion of the annual feast of the Parish and the 350th Anniversary of Siam Mission. The celebration was animated by Fr.Watchasilp Kritcharoen and Fr. Surachat Kaewsenee, together with their team. They shared on the theme: “We Love the Commandments of the Church” with the 70 participants.
I listened to the testimonies of dozens of young people during World Youth Day and the wonderful celebration of Don Bosco’s feast day in Panama (with the most multitudinous procession that I’ve ever seen in my life). These young people recounted so many more stories from their lives of how they were looked upon with a “special” gaze – that of the Lord.

LET US LEARN TO LOOK “WITH THE EYES OF GOD”

Dear Friends, I met wonderful people and marvelous young people at World Youth Day. Because Pope Francis spoke about Don Bosco and his knowing how to see with God’s eyes during these Days that were broadcast via the internet, they sped around the world in a split second, are still on the Web, and will remain throughout time. Personally, the story of one young woman’s life touched me deep down in my heart. She was a young mom, who, due to a grave illness, imprisoned herself in her home for more than a year and a half. She didn’t want to hear anything about anyone; she didn’t want to visit anyone or receive anyone’s visit. As far as she was concerned, her life was over. Those who loved her invited her to go to the Salesian house nearby. After being forced a bit and with not just a little resistance, she eventually went, and from that day forward up until today, many years later, she has never left this Salesian presence. I met her there. I came to know her there. I never could have imagined even for one minute how great a struggle and how many personal battles she had to face to survive. Her energy, her leadership, her ability to involve others and herself in things, would’ve led me to think that hers was a life that was always growing and overflowing with good results and success. That wasn’t the case. Then she was given that magnificent opportunity.
With a bit of fear and trembling, she timidly approached and met persons who “knew how to see with God’s eyes” without asking for anything. These young people recounted so many more stories from their lives of how they were looked upon with a “special” gaze – that of the Lord. Embracing life Pope Francis put it beautifully during the Vigil on Saturday when he stated that “embracing life is also seen in accepting things that aren’t perfect, pure, or ‘distilled,’ yet no less worthy of love.” This is what makes the difference in the way in which we treat each other as persons. We know, and many of us are convinced of this, certainly many of you – dear friends – that “love heals.” Love is curative. Only the one who is loved can be saved. Well, then, precisely because of this, the first step that we must undoubtedly take as educators and friends in our Salesian way, or simply as persons of good will who live in this world, is “not to be afraid to welcome life as it comes, … to embrace life as it is” (Pope Francis at the Vigil). That young mother of whom I spoke at the beginning of this letter needed only to find a life-giving place to be, a place
among people, where with her hands, heart, mind, and body she could feel she belonged and was “a part of something else,” of a much larger “community” that needed her, just as she was, with her life story. Finding such a place changed her life. Pope Francis said much about Don Bosco during that Vigil at World Youth Day. His words filled me with emotion and were even quite demanding because we weren’t able to listen to them and remain indifferent since fidelity to Don Bosco today means making the same choices and the same decisions that he did and that he would make today. The gift of roots “Saint John Bosco,” said Pope Francis, “didn’t go off to seek young people in far-off places (let’s see – those here who love Don Bosco, an applause!)… Don Bosco didn’t go off to seek young people in far-off or special places; he simply learned how to see with God’s eyes everything that was going on around him in his city. Thus he was deeply affected by the hundreds of children and young people left to themselves, without education, without work and without the helping hand of a community. Many other people were living in the same city, and many criticized those young people, but they were unable to see them with God’s eyes. We need to see young people with God’s eyes. Don Bosco did, and found the energy to take the first step: to embrace life as it
presented itself. From there, he wasn’t afraid to take the second step: to create a community, a family, with them, where through work and study they could feel loved. He gave them roots from which they could reach up to heaven – so that they could be someone in society. To give them roots to hold onto and help them stand securely when the first stormy winds come their way. That is what Saint John Bosco did….” These things and much more from those days left their impression on me. They’ve filled my heart and my soul with many faces – just as the great bishop Pedro Casaldáliga said when he was drawing near death and imagined himself standing in God’s presence, where they asked him what he’d done in his life. He presented his hands empty, but his heart filled with names. My friends, this means of communication that was so beloved, appreciated, and esteemed by its founder, Don Bosco – “The salvation God offers us is an invitation to be part of a love story interwoven with our personal stories. It’s alive and wants to be born in our midst so that we can bear fruit just as we are, wherever we are, and with everyone all around us.” (Pope Francis)

From 1 - 6 March 2019, the trainees of the Skills Development Center for the Blind, Pakkret, Nonthaburi, joined the 20th National Sports Competition for the Disabled - 2562 named “Pak Nam Pho Education Games” held in Nakorn Sawan Province. There were 11 sports events, and 102 institutions and schools that participated. There were 3,557 staffs and athletes who joined. The Skills Development Center for the Blind competed in judo. On 5 March 2019, the trainees won 3 gold medals, 3 silvers and 1 bronze.

On 8-9 March 2019, Fr.Pascal Chávez Villanueva visited Don Bosco Home - Bangsak, Phangnga, accompanied by Fr. Dheparat Pitisant, the Provincial, and Bro. Kriengsak Horiguchi. The students and the staff gave them a warm welcome.
The executive board of Don Bosco Technological College, Banpong, Ratchaburi, led by Fr. Phuwanat Kitsawad, signed the academic cooperation [Memorandum of Understanding] with Thonburi University on 13 February 2019.

The Parents and Teachers Association of St. Dominic School, together with the school administration, arranged the ‘Gratitude Day’ for the teachers, to strengthen the relationship of the community and the school. The event was held on Saturday, 9 March 2019. On this same occasion, gifts of appreciation for their relentless services were given to three teachers who were due for retirement by the Association and the School.
The Alumni Association of Don Bosco Technological College, Bangkok, led by Batch 41, organized the “15th Don Bosco Charity Golf Tournament” competing for the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Cup at Thani City Golf and Sports Club, on Friday, the 15th March 2019.

เมื่อวันที่ 23 กุมภาพันธ์ ค.ศ.2019 แผนกนักเรียนประจ�ำโรงเรียนสารสิทธิพ์ ทิ ยาลัย จ.ราชบุรี จัดกีฬาสัมพันธ์ และงานเลีย้ ง ปิดปีการศึกษา 2561 ให้กบั นักเรียนประจ�ำ ในงานนอกจากจะมีการแข่งขันกีฬา ระหว่างรุ่นพี่และรุ่นน้องแล้ว ยังมีการ สังสรรค์ การแสดงดนตรีและการร้อง เพลงคาราโอเกะด้วย On 23 February 2019, the boarder section of Sarasit Phithayalai School, Ratchaburi Province, organized a sports event and get-together on the occasion of the closing of school year 2561 [2018]. Aside from the sports competitions between the junior and senior boarders, there were also music and karaoke singing.

ชุมนุมเยาวชนซาเลเซียนฮ่องกง Salesian Youth Day
เมือ่ วันที่ 2 มีนาคม ค.ศ.2019 แขวงซาเลเซียนประเทศ จีนจัดชุมนุมเยาวชนที่ โรงเรียน Kowloon Tang King Po ในหัวข้อ “การร่วมเดินไปกับเยาวชน” โดยมีเยาวชน สมาชิกซาเลเซียน ซิสเตอร์ซาเลเซียนและซาเลเซียนผู้ร่วม งาน เข้าร่วมจ�ำนวน 600 คน โอกาสนี้พระคาร์ดินัลโยเซฟ เซน ได้มาร่วมในการภาวนาพร้อมกับเยาวชนด้วย Hong Kong - March 2019 - On March 2, at the “Kowloon Tang King Po School”, the Salesian Youth Day was held with the participation of about 600 people, including young people, Salesians, FMA and Salesian Cooperators. The day focused on the theme of youth accompaniment and was conceived to offer new experiences to the participants, through group activities, workshops, games, theater and prayer. Salesian cardinal Joseph Zen, bishop emeritus of Hong Kong, joined the youth in prayer, reminding them of the importance of accompaniment, underlining that “Living in solitude is difficult”, and sharing his personal experience.

Salesian Family present at “Expocatólica 2019” เมื่ อ วั น ที่ 7-10 มี น าคม ค.ศ.2019 ครอบครั ว ซาเลเซียนในประเทศโคลอมเบียได้ร่วมในการจัดงาน “Expocatólica 2019” ที่เมืองโบโกตา ซึ่งจัดขึ้นภายใต้ สโลแกนว่า “ให้เราเดินไปด้วยกัน” โดยมีจุดประสงค์เพื่อ สนับสนุนการประกาศพระวรสารในพระศาสนจักร (Bogotà) - From 7 to 10 March, at the “Ágora” Congress Center in Bogotá, the Salesian Family of Colombia took part in “Expocatólica 2019”, an event has been promoted for already several years now by the Episcopal Conference of Colombia, to make known the evangelizing force of the Church. The motto of this edition, on the wake of Pope Francis’ visit to the country in 2017, was: “Let us continue to walk together.”

Rome, 15 March 2019 -- The Biennal Meeting of the World Council of the Association of Salesian Cooperators (Coordinator: Mr. Antonio Boccia, World Delegates Fr Giuseppe Casti, SDB and Sr Lesley Sandigo, FMA) is taking place in Rome, March 13-17, 2019, in order to finalize the 6 year Strategic Plan for the 35,000 members of the Association.

วัด น.ยอห์น บอสโก กรุงเวียนนา ประเทศออสเตรีย จัดโครงการ “Warm Room” เพื่อแจกอาหาร เครื่องดื่ม ร้อนๆ เสื้อผ้าส�ำหรับฤดูหนาว และจัดสถานที่เพื่อพบปะ กั น ส� ำ หรั บ ผู ้ ที่ อ ยู ่ ใ นความต้ อ งการ ทุ ก วั น อั ง คารเวลา 10.00-17.00 น. โดยมี ก ลุ ่ ม คาริ ตั ส ของวั ด น� ำ โดย คุณ Kurt Roth และทีมงานจ�ำนวน 21 คน เป็นผูด้ ำ� เนินงาน Vienna, Austria - March 2019 - At the Salesian parish “Don Bosco” in Stadlau, near Vienna, every Tuesday, from 10 am to 5 pm, a welcome space called “Warm Room” is open to the needy, a place where it is possible to receive food and hot drinks, winter clothes and meet operators with whom to spend time together. About 21 people took advantage of the “warm room”, assisted by the head of the parish Caritas, Kurt Roth, and his team. March 2019
