Project Description The Miramar College Library/Learning Resource Center (LLRC) is a new three‐story, 100,000 square feet facility providing state‐of‐the art teaching and independent learning spaces and includes a new library, classrooms, computer labs, tutoring services, media production facility, and faculty and staff offices and work space. The LLRC is flanked by the future Arts & Humanities and Business & Mathematics buildings, also funded as part of Propositions S and N. The building is designed to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification by the United States Green Building Council, and includes a number of sustainable features, such as the extensive use of construction and design materials made with recycled content, and high‐efficiency plumbing and electrical fixtures. It was completed in June 2012.

More Sustainable Features • Design maximizes both daylight and views to the outside, increasing user comfort and productivity, and reducing the need for artificial light. All windows use “high performance” glass that allows sunlight to filter into the building, but reduces the amount of UV light and solar heat entering the building. • A rooftop deck will provide gathering space and area for future solar photovoltaic panels • A high efficiency irrigation system uses reclaimed water and utilizes a controller that adjusts itself to local weather. Trees and shrubs have been selected for their compatibility to the area, to provide shade and to minimize the need for water.
