NEW!

Green Training Hub.

East Sussex College was selected to establish one of five new decarbonisation academies across Sussex to support the development of skills in retrofitting and green energy installation.

We are working in partnership with OHM Energy to do this. The new ESC Training Hub in Eastbourne launches for the 2022/23 academic year. Located at Hampden Retail Park, the centre will support Local Authorities, construction employers, homeowners and businesses to improve insulation and install green energy products in commercial properties and housing.

“OHM brings 20 years’ commercial experience to the project, delivering the training so students can enter the workplace with the knowledge required. We are mindful that there are not enough educated engineers in renewable energy. We bring in our experience to change that.” - Jason Lindfield, Managing Director, OHM Energy.

Changes to our campuses.

Our Carbon Zero project is underway! We have secured Salix grant funds from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) to deliver energy-saving projects, with the aim of becoming carbon zero by 2030.

Our decarbonisation plan includes a range of opportunities to decrease energy consumption and heat loads, increase on-site renewable generation, and improve carbon performance across our estate.

This includes the addition of Ground Source Heat Pumps (Ore Valley, Eastbourne and Lewes) and Air Source Heat Pumps (Station Plaza and Lewes).

T-Level Design, Surveying & Planning students worked on designs for the new Training Hub as part of their course. Aiden Hill’s design was chosen to influence the final design! DID YOU KNOW?

“The ESC Training Hub will transform training for the future cohort. It will ensure the green strand is weaved through the curriculum, not just one project. This is our legacy.” - Hayley Robertson, ESC Head of Partnerships and Project Lead for the Decarbonisation project.

We are providing ground-breaking training for a greener future!

Sustainable Future: The Mvula Carbon Capture Project.

We signed up to the Mvula Carbon Capture Project with the UNA in 2020, and pledged to plant 5,000 Mvule trees and 1,000 fast growing ‘companion species’ in Equatorial Uganda. Over the next 20 years, these 6,000 trees will capture at least 60,000 tonnes of CO2.

At ESC we are involved with a Climate Action Group that meets monthly to discuss current and future initiatives. We continue to work in collaboration with local Councillors to achieve Carbon Zero by 2030!

DID YOU KNOW? As a college group, we produce 5,800 tonnes of CO2 per year, so our annual plantation of trees will comfortably offset our carbon emissions each year.
