Here are some of the best reasons to study with us... Our Lewes campus is a very friendly place to study. We have a great community feel to our college where we treat each other as young adults and with respect.

The white chalk cliffs of the South Downs make the perfect backdrop to the picturesque town of Lewes. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a town steeped in rich history: its medieval castle, Tudor houses, and narrow cobbled lanes. Lewes is known for being proudly independent â&#x20AC;&#x201C; it even relaunched its own currency in 2008, a throwback to its 19th century pound! Boutique shops, cafes and a cinema make the town an exciting place to explore. Our Lewes campus is just a short walk from the train station and town centre, located next to the Wave Leisure Centre. The fitness centre features a gym, swimming pool and full class timetable, making it a popular choice for students before or after college and during break times. We like to think that the college is an extension of our historic town and reflects many of the characteristics it has. We excel in a number of areas including A-Levels, the Arts, Beauty Therapy, and Performing Arts, to name just a few.

Thriving arts community Lewes and neighbouring Brighton have a thriving arts community and we are no different. We excel in the creative subjects. If you are a visual arts student, you will be able to practise your subject in a purpose built Visual Arts Block. This houses specialised facilities for a number of disciplines such as printmaking, photography, digital and media design. Our students often comment on how these facilities allow ideas come to life in a ‘real’ environment.

A pioneering Creative Hub In September 2019 we launched our Creative Hub to give ‘Creatives’ the opportunity to work on live briefs from real clients to enhance their learning. Students from across a range of the college’s subjects, which include Art & Design, Computing & IT, and Business are able to come together to work and create products and services for our local business partners. This could range from a website to the promotion of a sports event.

We regularly compete in the WorldSkills and UK Skills competitions and have helped our students launch their careers in the Beauty, Fashion, Film, and Music industries.

We’re eco friendly Our beauty and hair salons have eco status which means we are fully committed to looking after the environment and reducing our waste. We offer ammonia, p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), sulphate and paraben free hair products and vegan-friendly beauty treatments. We only use brands and products that have the same ethos and they have to be cruelty free.

Our musically gifted students, whether they study music related courses or not, are able to join the academy and have the opportunity to perform at huge national events each year. We’re lucky enough to have lots of great facilities, open spaces, and greenery to enjoy around our campus. We have a university-feel, which is great for preparing you for higher education, yet we’re small enough so it’s easy to find your way around.

Performing Arts Centre Along with our eco salons and visual art studios we also have a purpose-built Performing Arts Centre which holds spacious performance and dance studios. We have the latest professional music recording equipment, theatre lighting, and industry software.

Travelling to our campus... Our campus is situated in the heart of Lewes, right next to Lewes Train Station. This information is for illustration purposes only and travel times can differ. All travel times are to Lewes Train Station which is a two minute walk from our campus.

Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re just a short walk along Mountfield Road or there is even a footbridge across the train line. Lewes is a large and busy station and has regular trains to and from Brighton, Haywards Heath, and towards the east to

Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings and Ashford. There are plenty of direct buses that come into Lewes from the surrounding area such as Brighton, Ringmer, Chailey, Hailsham, Haywards

Heath, and Polegate. The main bus station is about a 10 minute walk to college, or buses arrive regularly to the train station which is even closer. We also have plenty of parking for cars, mopeds and push bikes.

We aim to ensure that each of our students is able to complete at least one week of meaningful industry experience each year. Tutors also have industry contacts and create industry experience opportunities for keen students, encourage you to source and secure your own placement in a business or industry you are interested in.

We will help you to get industry placements

Industry experience comes in many forms, for example Law students will have the chance to compete in the Bar National Mock Trial Competition and Health & Social Care students will spend a week in placements at hospitals, nursing homes, primary schools or day care centres.

We are here to help you through the whole process. If you canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t secure a placement we can help. We work with many different businesses and will help you contact and secure your place.

Working abroad In 2017, we secured funding to enable our students to undertake a four-week industry experience in Seville, Spain. Ever since, we have been sending groups of students from across our college curriculum to the sunny Spanish city to work as chefs in tapas bars, reception staff in hotels, and giving tourists guided Segway tours of the city.

Involved Student Experience

Students’ Union

College will be a very memorable and important part of your life. You’ll spend two or three years working towards gaining your chosen qualification(s). However, college isn’t just about studying. You’ll be able to develop yourself as a person and gain all the soft interpersonal skills you need in order to succeed by getting involved with activities outside of the classroom - you’ll also develop your social skills and have loads of fun too.

Run by the students, for the students! As a student you will automatically become part of our Students’ Union.

If you feel you want to be more proactive within the Union, then you could stand for an executive role on the committee, including Student Governor. This is a great opportunity where you get to build up confidence and develop various skills in teamwork, leadership and organisation. You will help our students have a great time at college, giving a firsthand insight into the experience of being a student.

Stress Awareness Month culminated with popular stressbusting days at each of our campuses, where students are given tips on how to relax, practise mindfulness and effectively prepare for their exams.

Our Students’ Union is run by our elected Student President who partakes in Committee meetings with our Governors and Principal. The Union works to improve all aspects of college life for all students. Whether that’s through social events, political campaigns or raising awareness for local or national issues.

Sports Academies If you love to play sports then we have a thriving sports academy in Lewes. You’ll be given plenty of time outside of your lessons to train and practise, then have Wednesday afternoons for competitive matches. We offer men’s and women’s football and rugby, as well as netball academies. So no matter what subjects you’re studying, you can join one of our academies.

Things happen all-year-round We have a jam-packed calendar of events once you become an ESC student. During the first couple of weeks of term we have our freshers’ events giving you the chance to get to know your fellow students, sign up for the sports academies and societies, and have some fun at our freshers’ welcome party. Various events take place throughout the autumn up until Christmas such as Vegan festivals, musical theatre and Christmas markets. Then into the new year we regularly host fundraising and charity events, relaxation and stress busting days. After your exams have finished and you’ve handed in your course work we throw the biggest end of year party with our smash-hit college festivals. Headline acts including Reggie Yates, Amelia Lily, and Jack Maynard have all performed at our Lewes campus and helping you to start your summer in style.

Parent & Guardian Information

What is Further Education? FE refers to post secondary school education and encompasses A-Levels, BTECs, apprenticeships and other vocational courses as well as Foundation Learning.

How can I help my child decide on the right course for them? There are many qualifications to choose from at East Sussex College and we can help your child with that choice, looking at their predicted grades, their interests and preferred ways of learning. Can I visit the college before my child applies? We hold a number of open evenings throughout the year at each of our campuses. This is your chance to explore the college, check out the facilities on offer and meet course tutors and current students.

How does my child apply to college? Your child can easily apply to ESC online, by post (application form included in this prospectus) or in person. We accept applications until September. Your child can apply for more than one course and have more than one interview.

What happens at the start of college? The induction period is there to make the transition from school to college as easy as possible. What support is available for my child at college? When your son/daughter starts college they will be allocated a personal tutor. This will be the key contact for you and your child during their time at college. Many students require additional support while they study with us. Our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team helps students with learning difficulties and disabilities, and can assist with the transition from school to college, in-class support, assistive technology and more.

On receipt of your childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s application, an interview date is sent out. At the interview, we make sure your child has chosen the right course for them and provide details about the course or programme. Parents are encouraged to attend. Usually an offer is made with conditions such as GCSE grade requirements. Occasionally a referral will be made to consider alternative options. Instructions, learner support and enrolment details will be sent to you during the summer holidays about what to do on and after GCSE results day.

What financial support is available? Tuition and exam fees are free for learners aged 1618. However, you may need to pay for equipment and materials relevant to the course. What are A-Levels? Advanced Level qualifications, better known as A-Levels, are two year courses that are perfect for helping you get into university. You’ll be able to choose three subjects to study and you will usually be assessed by exams. Our A-Level programme follows the linear structure which means your exams will be at the end of your two years, rather than at the end of each module or year.

Tutorial System A Sixth Form education requires determination and hard work and we realise that support outside of the classroom is essential to enable you to succeed. When you enrol with us you will be assigned a tutor. They will be aligned with the subject you have chosen and be able to give you expert support and guidance with those subjects.

UCAS Application Support If your goal is to head to university after A-Levels then we’ll be able to support you with your UCAS application. We regularly run UCAS surgeries to help you with each step of the process, from setting up your account to writing and refining your personal statement.

Outstanding Opportunities We also offer you the chance to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The EPQ is a Level 3 qualification that is worth half an A-Level and will help to boost your UCAS application and develop your knowledge in a particular area of interest. You can choose a topic, carry out research, and then write either a 5,000 word essay or create a ‘product’ and write a 1,000 word essay, followed by a short presentation. The skills you’ll develop as a result of doing an EPQ, such as project planning, decision making, record keeping, evaluation, presenting are invaluable in most jobs and uni courses.

Learn outside the classroom

It’s not all work, work, work!

Your learning will also take place outside of the classroom with a number of industry placements opportunities, guest talks, and trips.

As we mentioned earlier, there are plenty of activities for you to get involved with outside of the classroom. Whether it is joining one of our sports academies, becoming a student rep or starting your own club or society there is plenty to keep you busy.

Each year you’ll be able to take advantage of our excellent links with local and national employers to gain valuable industry placements in an area related to your studies. In the past students have Industry worked for accountancy firms, placements, marketing departments, local local news outlets in print, guest talks and hospitals, TV and radio, and with lawyers and industry trips solicitors. These opportunities not only give you valuable hands-on experience, it also looks great on your CV and UCAS application. We often welcome university lecturers and industry experts into the college to give talks about their jobs, their industry, and to give you an insight into what the industry might look like in the future. We also give you the opportunity to get involved with lots of trips throughout the year. We put on coaches to the UCAS fairs in London and Brighton so you can find out more about university courses up and down the country. Our subject areas also organise course related trips throughout the year. Our students often visit the capital to experience the Law courts, parliament, banks, marketing agencies, and tourist attractions.

We’re all in it together We have a close-knit sixth form that has fantastic progression rates - giving our students the opportunity to move onto the things they want to do next - including their first choice university, starting apprenticeship, or go off into the world of work. Our students always tell us how friendly and welcoming our sixth form is. It is a place where they’re able to meet new lifelong friends and they are able to mature and gain independence. The feel of the large, modern building, the interaction with the tutors, and their in-depth subject knowledge is the perfect stepping stone to university.

Each year we organise a week-long ski trip to Austria where you’ll be able to enjoy some time on the slopes, and if you’re studying A-Level PE, you’ll even be able to carry out your practical assessment!

So how do you choose your A-Level subjects? Some of the best advice we’ve ever heard is to plan backwards. Work out a rough plan of what job you’d like to have in ten years. From there you can look into the details of whether you’d need a degree to do this, and the subjects you need to study at A-Level to get you onto that degree.

Play to your strengths There is nothing wrong with studying the subjects your good at. If you’re predicted 8s and 9s in English, then perhaps consider taking A-Level English Language & Literature.

Don’t get bored The linear structure means that you’ll study A-Levels for two years. So it’s sensible to choose three subjects that you’re going to enjoy and maintain your interest in right up until the end.

Do your uni research As well as researching the courses you want to study at uni, find out about the courses they offer and discover what entry requirements you’ll need to get in. You’ll also be able to find out what facilities they have, what the student lifestyle is like, and whether you’d like to study there.

This exciting two-year course will encourage a wide exploration of textiles techniques that could be developed into fashion or interiors. Employment You may feel that you’re ready to start earning a salary and begin working full-time after A-Levels. Lots of our past students have opted for full-time work rather than uni or an apprenticeship, and this may be right for you too. You will have gained Advanced Level qualifications in three subjects, showing that you are able to learn and retain information. You may be able to find fulltime positions in a number of organisations related to the subject you have studied, thanks to industry placements. In the past, students have gone to work for local banks, galleries, accountancy firms, solicitors, and language schools.

Apprenticeship You may decide that going to university isn’t for you, but you’d still like to learn more about a particular subject, gaining valuable industry placements in that area.

Since a few changes were made to apprenticeships, more students are finishing their A-Levels and are turning to this work-based qualification. Students are able to study Higher Apprenticeship which allows them to gain the equivalent level qualification to a degree, while gaining valuable experience in the workplace. What are T-Levels? T-Levels are brand new technical study programmes and are set to become one of the three major options available to you after finishing your GCSEs, alongside A-Levels and Apprenticeships. Just like A-Levels, you will study your chosen T-Level for two years and at the end of the course, you can achieve the equivalent of three A-Levels. T-Levels offer you the chance to study one subject in detail, focusing on core elements that will underpin your knowledge, concepts and skills in your chosen industry. You will then have the opportunity to study a specialised set of skills, before undertaking an industry placement with an employer, which will last for a minimum of 315 hours, which is roughly 45 working days.

HAIR & BEAUTY COURSES There are over 42,000 hairdressing, barbering, and beauty businesses in the UK, employing around 260,000 people. In 2016 the industry generated almost £7.5bn for the UK economy. Our hair, beauty and makeup courses will give you the opportunity to learn the essential skills you need to cut hair and perform beauty treatments. You will be able to gain valuable experience in our commercial hair and beauty salons as we welcome real paying clients in for treatments. Our Eco salons are fitted with brand new styling chairs, washing basins, beauty beds, and nail stations, and we

significantly reduce the amount of waste we create and only use products with recyclable packaging. In fact all of the products we use are better for the environment, and even offer a pure 100% natural hair colour. You will have the opportunity to visit hair and beauty trade shows at the ExCel in London and go on educational trips. You’ll also gain experience by entering national competitions

such as UK Skills and Wella’s Xposure and have the opportunity to listen to talks from industry experts from local and national salons. Beauty Therapy Level 2 Course Code: L6289/020 To join this course you will need to have a minimum four grade 9(A*) to 3(D) at GCSE. If you love the idea of making people feel good and look their best, a job in the beauty therapy industry could be perfect for you. During this course you will be given a thorough introduction to the industry and learn all about the latest beauty treatments, including manicures, pedicures, make-up application, and waxing. Our beauty salons are open to the general public, so youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll get first-hand experience of working with real clients using industry standard products and equipment, as well as developing your customer service and teamwork skills through reception duties. Once you have completed this course you can move onto the Level 3 Beauty Therapy course or join our Complementary Therapies course.

Level 3 Course Code: L5035/010 To join this course you will need to have successfully completed the Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy. Building on your knowledge from previous study you will be able to go deeper into the theory behind beauty treatments and be introduced to more advanced techniques. You will be able to understand the ageing process and learn how to perform anti-ageing face and body treatments, you will be able to care for certain skin conditions, and learn more advanced hair removal techniques. You will train in a range of body massage techniques, how to carry out spray and cream tanning, and gain a commercial understanding for running a salon, including planning and implementing promotional events. Once you have finished this course you may decide to move into employment within a salon, or decide to carry on studying by joining our Level 3 Complementary Therapies course in Eastbourne to specialise in holistic treatments.

If you enjoy hairstyling and being creative, have a keen eye for fashion and the latest trends, and like meeting different people, then this could be the perfect career for you. During this course you will master the basic skills of cutting, styling, and colouring, taught by industry professionals in our newly revamped salon. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to showcase your skills at various college and local community events and fundraisers throughout the year. Once you have completed this course you will be ready to move onto the Level 3 Hairdressing course.

Level 3 Course Code: L5039/010 To join this course you will need to have successfully completed the Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing. During this course you will build on your existing knowledge and be able to master the advanced skills of creative cutting, styling short and long hair and colouring. You will fine-tune your excellent customer service and ‘people’ skills, and learn how to provide clients with specialist consultation and treatment services for hair and scalp conditions. Once you have completed the course you’ll be ready to start your career as a hairstylist. Options may include working in salons across the world, in hotels, hospitals and care homes, cruise ships and even armed forces bases. Level 2 Course Code: L6440/010 To join this course you will need to have a minimum four grade 9(A*) to 3(D) at GCSE. During this course you will be able to gain an introduction into the world of make-up artistry. You will study theoretical, technical and practical aspects of the subject and learn about the different types of make-up there are and how to apply them. You will also develop your knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Once you have finished this course you will have a solid understanding of the industry and be able to start your career as a make-up artist or continue studying on our Level 3 course to improve your knowledge and skills further.

Level 3 Course Code: L6441/010 To join this course you will need to have successfully completed Level 2 Make-up Artistry. During this advanced course you will use your creative ability to explore and develop skills in all aspects of make-up. You will develop techniques so that you are able to apply make-up to those who appear on television, in films, and on stage. You will also learn how to create camouflage make-up, fashion and photographic make-up, applying prosthetic pieces, applying air-brush make-up, and designing and applying face and body paint. Once you have finished this course you will be able to move into the industry as a highlyskilled make-up artist or you could go onto study Level 4 Advanced Beauty Therapy â&#x20AC;&#x201C; at East Sussex College Eastbourne or University Centre Hastings.

As a make-up artist you always need to keep up with current trends, so this course teaches you how to apply different types of foundation, the types of contouring, styling eyebrows and eyelashes. We look at the trends that come and go, along with historical make-up, including key looks from the 1940s and 1960s. You will also study airbrushing, create fantasy looks and poly-painting, which is very fashionable at the moment.

You will learn about the UK travel and tourism sector, world travel destinations, and understanding customer service, airlines and airports. You will look at the landscape of tourism in the UK and abroad, and undertake a project to plan, create and deliver a guided tour around a popular town or place. Once you have completed this course you will be ready to move into employment in this industry either in full-time employment or by starting an apprenticeship. Other options may include continuing to study the travel, tourism or leisure industries at university.

We go to Butlins, we go overseas to New York, and we go to the Virgin training base in Crawley - It’s a fantastic day out where we get to put out fires and jump down slides.

You will have developed many of the key knowledge, skills, and behaviours that employers are looking for which will make you a prime candidate for employment. As we have based our new curriculum on the occupational maps that apprenticeships are built on, there are also opportunities for you to move directly into an apprenticeship after college. CREATIVE & DESIGN COURSES The Creative industry in the UK now generates more than £100bn a year for the economy and employs more than 2m people. The industry continued to power the growth of the UK’s workforce last year as new jobs developed faster in this sector than in any other. The UK government define them as “industries which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property. Our Creative & Design courses will give you the opportunity to study a whole range of artistic disciplines including fine art, graphic design, photography, animation, fashion, and film. Our creative subjects are based in Cliffe building and feature large, spacious art studios on the ground floor and digital design studios on the third floor. We have a whole range of traditional and modern art equipment ranging from paints, and printing presses, to light boxes, and bird’s eye view cameras. You will be able to gain valuable experience during your course

through visiting lecturers from the industry such as animators and illustrators, UX experts and UI experts who run workshops with you. Local employers also set projects and grade to see how well you meet their brief. You’ll have the chance to take part in the Royal Opera House challenge and the Penguin Book awards so you can create high quality pieces of work and compete with other students on a national level. During this course you will learn and develop a range of media production skills such as video production, audio production and interactive print production. You will also learn about how media industries work and how to analyse professional media products. Once you have completed the course you will be able to move on the Level 3 course.

To join this course you will need to have a minimum five grade 9(A*) - 4(C) at GCSE. This visual arts course offers the opportunity to experiment and develop practical filmmaking and photography skills whilst exploring your own interests and inspirations. Emphasis is on personal development and application of the creative method. Over the year we undertake a number of projects of increasing size and complexity across film and photography, which allow you to stretch and challenge yourself in a safe creative and collaborative environment. Assessment and achievement are tracked through portfolios of practical work and online sketchbooks. This course includes: both studio based and location shooting for film and photography, Digital and 35mm photography including dark room developing, Video editing and Photoshop, Sound recording and editing, Interactive storytelling, A final major project of your own devising based on your own skills and interests. If you complete both years of the course, you will have the equivalent of three A-Levels and will be well placed for University applications to creative and visual arts courses.

Developing the ability to plan, develop and create stories through a diverse range of animation and illustration methods and techniques. You will be encouraged to develop different styles of visual language based on genre and target audience profiles. You will use a wide range of different software titles and develop your non-digital drawing skills. The course endeavours to you give you the opportunity to develop your skills, enhance your knowledge of the subject and related areas and give you the confidence to be a successful independent creative. Tuition will include: Introduction to computer software for creation and manipulation of/for Illustration and animation, basics of analogue and digital animation, basics of digital and hand drawn illustration, responding to client requirements & writing creative proposals. I’ve had the chance to work on live briefs including the Royal Opera House Design Challenge and Charleston’s Home exhibition. I won the ‘Best Set Design’ in the Royal Opera House Design Challenge for ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and was awarded the ‘Best Art in Show’ during the Charleston ‘Home’ Exhibition. DIGITAL COURSES In the UK, the digital sector and the creative industries are closely related. The digital sector helps to make up a proportion of the £100bn that is produced in the UK each year. There are over 1.5m jobs in the digital sector which accounts for almost 5% of the UK’s workforce. The UK government define them as “industries which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property. Our digital based courses will give you the opportunity to learn a wide range of cuttingedge skills to prepare you for employment in this constantly evolving industry. You will able to learn all aspects of digital technology and IT in our digital hub and fullyequipped computer suites. We have high-spec computers with industry standard software and tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, Android Studio, Unreal Engine, PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and C++.

You will have the opportunity to visit a number of tech businesses to see the industry in action and listen to industry experts as they visit college to give you an insight into their role and the ever-changing digital landscape. You’ll also be able to gain valuable work experience as you undertake an industry placement with companies aligned to your particular area of interest. In September 2019 we opened our Creative Hub in Lewes. This pioneering hub allows you to work on real projects, set by

real employers. You will have the chance to put together hardware, create databases, build websites, and even produce mobile apps. You gain real-world experience and the businesses gain products and services to help grow their business. They are constantly immersing themselves in new technology to keep their industry knowledge and teaching practice up to date.

The UAL Extended Diploma in App, Web & Games Design is a two-year, full time programme at level 3 (equivalent to three ALevels). CARE COURSES The Health and Social Care sector is one of the largest employment sectors in the UK and includes a wide range of roles, taking place within hospitals, care homes, nursing homes, hospices and dental practices. The industry contributes £46.2 billion to the economy and represents 6% of total employment in the UK. Our Care Services pathway consists of courses in Health and Social Care which gives you the opportunity to learn a diverse range of skills in one of the most important industries in the country. You will learn key knowledge, practical skills, and behavioural qualities that will prepare you for careers in roles ranging from youth work to dentistry. Practical learning is a key part of our Health and Social Care courses which is why we give you the chance to undertake meaningful industry placements. There is the

opportunity to complete up to 200 hours worth of work placement within a huge range of industry settings such as Special Educational Needs Schools, day-care centres, GP surgeries, care homes, residential homes and hospitals. The industry is dominated by women and it is thought that men only make up 2% of the workforce. Since the start of 2019, there has been a big push to encourage more men to train and work in the sector. We’ve been overseas to places such as Budapest, New York, and Krakow in Poland. We try to relate all of our trips to learning so have been to children’s homes, teenage mental health units, and we’ve been to Auschwitz - so a real variety of places. We always go up to the House of Commons in London for a tour and educational workshop. We go to Drusillas to look at enabling environments with educational workshops and we also go to the Nursery World Exhibition to look at things like universities and different careers.

SPORT & FITNESS COURSES The Sport and Fitness industry is booming. It is at an all time high and is predicted to keep on growing. Experts say that by 2020 the industry will be worth £23 billion. In 2018, there were 189,000 people with sports and fitness occupations in employment in the UK. Our Sports courses and facilities are some of the best in the area. We have exceptional facilities and our partnerships with Wave Leisure and Lewes Football Club means that we’re able to offer you much more than just learning in a classroom. On campus we have a gymnasium which is perfect for gym-based fitness and games such as basketball, netball and badminton. We have exclusive access to the football club’s all-weather 3G sports pitch, and the leisure centre’s 400metre running track, swimming pool and gym. But our partnership doesn’t stop there. In fact, we can offer you much more than just facilities. As a sport student with us you will be able to get hands on experience of the industry by working alongside

Wave to manage our facilities, everything including managing bookings, taking fitness classes, recommending diet programmes, and helping with sports injury rehabilitation. You will also have the opportunity to boost your qualifications while studying with us as we give you the opportunity to complete a Community Sports Leadership Award at Level 2 and a Higher Sports Leadership Award at Level 3. As well as the practical side of the course you will have the opportunity to see theory lessons come to life during visits, trips, and talks from industry professionals. Each year we visit the sport science facilities at the University of Brighton to take

part in dissertation research using oxygen masks, use heat chambers, and ice baths, as well as look at the placebo effect of caffeine. You will visit the Body Works exhibition in London to get a deeper understanding of Anatomy and Physiology, have the opportunity to take part in our annual skiing trip to Austria, and take part in walking expeditions form Devils Dyke to Hassocks and back. Our tutors are highly trained professionals who have years of experience in the sports industry. They have specialisms in a number of areas including team sports, anatomy and physiology, and sports psychology.

PUBLIC SERVICES COURSES The Public Services play a vital role in the welfare and safety of people here in the UK and abroad, on the front-line and behind the scenes. There are 5.36 million people employed in the public sector across the UK. Of this figure, there are 122,000 Police Officers, 146,000 people in the Armed Forces, 30,100 Firefighters and 26,000 Paramedics. Our Public Services courses will teach you everything you need to know about the uniformed public services and help you to become an independent thinker and problem solver - two skills that are vital for this industry. We have a fantastic range of purpose built facilities on-site and we’re surrounded by a stunning natural landscape. What are Specialist courses?

We have a range of specialist courses that have been designed to help you gain the qualifications you need to progress on to our college courses, help you re-engage with education, or help you to build confidence and independence - gaining some valuable skills for life. We have courses that will help you to build your confidence, meet new people, and gain some valuable industry placements and employability skills. There are others that will help you to become more independent, learn about healthy living, learn how to cook a range of basic recipes, and learn to manage your own money.

For many of these courses, you wonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t need any formal qualifications, just the commitment to come to college.

We also have courses that will help you to settle back into the college environment, help you to improve your English, maths, and employability skills, and get you involved with industry placements and college enrichment activities. Personal & Social Development Course Code: L4540/080 Personal and Social Development is a supported learning course which gives you the opportunity to develop your own personal and social skills at college, while following a project based approach to get ready for adult life. You will be supported to develop new friendships, look after your relationships and think about how you can get involved in your local community. You will also be encouraged to look after your own personal health and wellbeing as well as make healthy choices about your diet and lifestyle. What next? You may wish to move onto the Workskills course before looking at an Independent Living or Employment Pathway in your third year.

The A-Level Pathway programme has been designed to help you progress onto our A-Level or Level 3 courses.

Our A-Level Pathway course has been specifically designed to help you gain the skills and grades you need to join our sixth form. If you just fell below the entry requirements after your GCSEs you will be able to study this specific programme made up of core GCSE subjects to boost your qualifications. You will study a mixture of maths, English, science, and complete a personal project. What next? On successful completion of this course you will have the skills and qualifications to progress to A-Levels.

You will explore the type of work youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d like to do, how you will manage your money, who will be able to support you, where you will live, and who you will live with. You will be given the opportunity to take part in industry placements to gain practical experience in an area of your choice. Social action and enterprise projects will develop your communication and teamwork skills, as well as the behaviours and attitude you need for work. What next? There are 3 different ways to apply to us: Through our website You can apply to us online via our college websites. 1. Visit www.escg.ac.uk. 2. You will then be able to search for the course or courses that you’re interested in and then click ‘apply’. Make sure you select your course at the right campus. 3. You’ll then be taken to another page where you will be able to fill in an application. 4. You will receive an automated email to say that we have received your application within five working days. If you have any problems please don’t hesitate to call and speak to one of our student advisors.

Send us your application by post There is an application form in the back of this prospectus that you can pull out and fill in. Once you have completed the form, hand it back to your current school or college for completion.

You can apply to us in person. Drop into the campus you would to study at and speak to our friendly Student Advisors who are happy to help you with your application.

If you’re under 16 you will need to ask your parent/ guardian to sign the form.

We will be able to assist you in filling out the application form, but you will need your parent/ guardian to sign the form if you are under 16.

You can then post it to our Lewes campus by sending it to East Sussex College, 1 Mountfield Road, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 2XH.

There is no need to arrange an appointment as we will always have someone on hand to help you - so pop in and say hello soon.

Can’t make up your mind? If you can’t decide on a course, don’t panic. You can apply to study more than one course on your application form (a copy of this is at the back of this prospectus). You will have the chance to discuss your options with us at interview. We also offer bookable careers guidance appointments for you to explore your options. The most important thing is you eventually enrol on the course that’s right for you - we are here to help you.

r u o y r Af te ion: applicat Interviews If we have all the information we need on your application form, we will invite you to an interview. The sooner you submit your application, the sooner you’ll receive an interview.

Offers At the end of your interview, you will be given written confirmation of any exam grades (or other requirements) you need to secure your place. Once your place is confirmed, you will continue to receive information about starting college and your journey to an exciting future will begin. After your exam results in August, you will be invited to attend enrolment in late August or early September – this is when you officially become an East Sussex College student! You will need to bring in your exam results and we’ll contact you to tell you exactly when you start your course.

Course cancellations

You will receive a letter telling you what you will need to bring with you on your allocated day and time, as a general rule, these are held weekly.

In the unlikely event that your course is cancelled, we will do our best to find you an alternative course to help you succeed in your career ambitions.

The interview is a good opportunity to find out more about your chosen subject (s) and will give you more information and make sure you are considering the right course for your future. Your parents/carers are welcome to come with you.

Where possible, any payments towards the cost of your course can be transferred to your new course. Any refunds will be credited by bank transfer (BACS) to your bank account.
