shown to be a potent antiviral molecule against various types of DNA and RNA viruses.10 In recent years, extensive research tells us about the effect of resveratrol on the regulation of crucial cellular processes such as cell cycle and inflammatory responses. Research has also demonstrated that resveratrol is helpful in relieving pulmonary function in the general population and serves a protective role in respiratory system diseases.1
RESVERATROL & RED WINE
You may have heard that red wine, in moderate doses, could be good for you. The reason is resveratrol. In the 1990s the “French Paradox” attracted attention because of the suggestion that many people from France had a lower occurrence of cardiovascular disease due to moderate consumption of red wine, even though they also enjoyed feasting on saturated fats.10 The polyphenols in red wine, of which resveratrol is one, serve as antioxidants that may help protect the lining of blood vessels in the heart and may help prevent damage to blood vessels and lower blood clotting.11 The darker-colored red wines have a higher concentration of resveratrol. Resveratrol is also found in dark chocolate. We are not in any way advocating drinking wine or binging on chocolate. However, supplementing with trans-resveratrol could have significant added health benefits.
