Indigenous Rock Art

We’ll visit the cliff-face canvases of the Southern Black Hills. Archaeologist and Storied Stone: Indian Rock Art of the Black Hills Country author Linea Sundstrom explores the methods, and potential meanings, behind rarely seen, centuries-to-millennia old indigenous rock art.

Join us as we venture to Viborg to meet welder and metal sculptor Lynn Peterson. “When I was in high school I saw the shop class, and I thought welding was kind of neat,” says Peterson. “I started doing some welding in school, and it was just like it was natural to me. Some people are musicians, play piano. Welding and working with iron was just always something that was natural for me.”
Next, meet Abby Bischoff, a Sioux Falls-based photographer whose images of uninhabited houses throughout South Dakota are compiled in her book Abandoned South Dakota.

And we travel to Faulkton to see the massive mural that graces the Agtegra grain silo in Faulkton. The mural, by Australian artist Guido Van Helten, is one of several projects organized by the Faulkton Area Arts Council and Faulkton community members.
