SOUTH DAKOTA FUND GRANTS : $656,338 / 39 Grants

The South Dakota Fund is an unrestricted fund that makes grants in support of culture, economic development, education, financial literacy, health and human services. SDCF's Board of Directors awards grants throughout the year to nonprofits that meet vital and diverse needs across the state.

The City of Parkston received a $20,000 grant from the South Dakota Fund to support a new public park. These funds will match other grants and fundraising in the community. Finishing touches necessary for the Papa’s Park project include benches, lights, landscaping, a picnic shelter and a basketball court.

BEYOND IDEA GRANTS: $1,190,770 / 14 Grants

SDCF has partnered with the Bush Foundation to offer Beyond Idea Grants. These grants support community-based problem-solving efforts in South Dakota. SDCF’s Board of Directors selected the first round of recipients for this program in 2022.

Early Learner South Dakota received a $58,000 Beyond Idea Grant to improve access and quality of early learning experiences and environments for the children of our state. They will act as a mentor to communities, providing them tools and starting resources to begin this process.

NONPROFIT SAVINGS ACCOUNT GRANTS: $140,000 / 7 Grants

The Nonprofit Savings Account program enables nonprofit organizations to mobilize their donor base to build a sustainable revenue stream. The program hopes to spark the growth of endowed funds that can help support nonprofits now and well into the future. SDCF's Board of Directors selects recipients.

The South Dakota Railroad Museum received $20,000 in matching funds from SDCF when the group raised $80,000 towards their newly established endowment fund with SDCF. The South Dakota Railroad Museum collects, preserves and interprets South Dakota railroad artifacts, memorabilia and personal memories through exhibits.

FOUNDATION GRANTS: $27,613,942 / 2,363 Grants

Foundation Grants encompass all grants and scholarships distributed by individual funds administered by SDCF. Fund holders, scholarship committees and local Community Savings Account councils recommend grant recipients to SDCF, which then distributes checks to nonprofits.

The Pierre/Fort Pierre Area Community Foundation and Youth Philanthropy Fund together distributed over $39,000 in grants to 16 community organizations doing great work for the Pierre/Fort Pierre area in 2022. The two endowed funds have granted over $514,000 to nonprofit organizations and programs in the local area since inception.
